Mermaids in Our Midst: Jane and The Jitterbug Bakery

We’re so excited around here! Our good friend Jane is embarking on a major adventure, and she wants to take Tybee Island right along with her!

Jane Wells is the UX and community lead for WordPress, and she lives here on Tybee. Before she was a web design guru, she was a cook, baker, and manager of healthy cafes and kitchens in tourist lodges. Now, she has a mission to bring both her loves together!

The Jitterbug Bakery will bring a few things to Tybee that she is sorely missing! Jane hopes to open her bakery and provide Tybee Island with a go-to place for coffee, pastry, and yummy vegetarian options. And that’s not all! The Jitterbug will be a space where the community can relax, connect, and even learn!

She’s got the plan in motion, but she needs our help! You can read more about this wonderful project over on her Kickstarter Project page! Not only is there loads of info on her vision for The Jitterbug Bakery, you can learn exactly how you can make this plan a reality for Jane and for Tybee Island! You can even follow Jane through her start-up process and the progress of the entire project at her site, BuyJaneABakery.com! There, you’ll find her blog, information on the project, a link to ways you can help her achieve her goal, and even The Jitterbug Bakery menu!

We can’t wait to help, and we are so excited to see where this adventure leads! Please join us in support of The Jitterbug Bakery. Jane, Mermaid Cottages, and Tybee Island will thank you!

Wild local Georgia Shirmp & Grits

Made an absolutely wonderful dinner tonight- wild Georgia shrimp and stone ground grits. I couldn’t believe how yummy the dinner turned out! Nothing better on a winter night (even when its only 50 degees outside!)  The grits has cheese which made them even better!

Tybee Community Pool Fundraiser!

Tybee is planning something cool, but we need your help! Tybee Island has just about anything you could ask for, right? Well, we don’t have a community pool! Wouldn’t that be nice? A place to enjoy splishin’ and splashin’, all year long? Well, we think it would be awesome and so do many others. That’s why we need your help!

If you are in the Tybee area, or if you’re going to be sometime soon, please consider donating items to the Tybee Island Community Pool Yard Sale Fundraiser! Items of all kinds are needed, right down to tables for displaying the items, so this is your opportunity to do a little spring cleaning and donate things today!

The yard sale will be held Saturday, February 25th from 7a.m. to 2 p.m. at 613 Miller Avenue. You can drop off your donations (starting now!) at 613 Miller Avenue any time. This will help everyone handling pricing of items to get a jump on the task before the big day. Check out the list below and please, donate if you can! One hundred percent of the proceeds from the yard sale will go toward the Tybee Island Community Pool Fund!

Needed Yard Sale Items

Children’s clothes in good condition
Power Tools: saws, drills, sanders, and so on
Sporting Equipment: golf clubs, workout equipment
Bicycles: especially ones in good shape & ready to ride
Electronics: stereos, computers, radios, etc.
Toys in good condition
Household Items: refrigerators, irons, dishes, etc.
Furniture: chairs, tables, beds
Books: all kinds, but especially children’s books
Gardening Equipment: rakes, hand tools, watering cans
Jewelry: watches, rings, necklaces, earrings
Miscellaneous: wall hangings, quilts, bedding, pet items

And remember, if you don’t have items to donate, we still need tables to use for display! Label your tables so they can be returned to you and drop them off at 613 Miller Avenue. Volunteers are also needed to work from 6 a.m. to 2p.m., so there’s a spot for everyone to participate. Every little bit helps! If you need more information, please contact Chris Garbettat 786-0448 or tybeechris1@bellsouth.net.

We hope to see you out at the Community Pool Fundraiser Saturday, February 25th! It’s for a great cause; Tybee needs a year round heated pool for locals and guest alike to enjoy! Help us make that goal! Donate items, come out and shop…every little action moves us that much closer to our goal. See you Saturday!
