Christmas Fun on Tybee Island

Christmas is in full swing around here, and we couldn’t be happier! We sure do love decking our halls each year and adding to the festive spirit of Christmas here on Tybee Island. There’s nothing better than the holidays in paradise, that’s for sure!

We are so honored to say that, for the third year in a row, Mermaid Cottages was named the Best Decorated Business on Tybee! It couldn’t have happened without every single Mermaid and Merman in our group, so we want to send out a huge Thank You and Job Well Done to our entire Mermaid Cottages family for all their hard work making every single cottage merry for the holidays. The entire island does a fabulous job with decorating, so being honored this way really warms our hearts! Just look at these beautiful pictures from Fish Camp Cottage, Paws and Paddles Cottage, Dutton-Waller Cottage, and Paula Deen’s Y’all Come Inn!

Just a few of our cottages showing their Christmas spirit!

Makes us all warm and fuzzy just looking at those! If the holiday lights and decorations haven’t sufficiently helped you to be jolly, don’t forget there are still loads of events happening on Tybee for the Holidays. In fact, this weekend is packed full of Christmas cheer!

The 3rd Annual Floating Christmas Parade is always a fun not-to-be-missed event at The Crab Shack! The festivities begin at 6:30pm with a Hot Dog & Chili Bar that is available until 7:30pm. The Hot Dog & Chili Bar will be FREE for parade participants with a Second Harvest canned food donation and $5 for spectators with a Second Harvest canned food donation.  Participants will also receive FREE docking for Friday and/or Saturday night! The boats depart The Crab Shack Docks at 7:15pm and return at 8:30pm. Awards will be given at 9pm for The Best Decorated, The Most Lights, The Most Enthusiastic Elves, and The Longest Voyage. There will be music from 6:30pm – 10pm as well!  Clear your weekend calendar and come celebrate the holidays while supporting a good cause!

Don’t worry, there’s still more fun to be had if parades aren’t your thing. Don’t miss the Candle Lantern Tour at Fort Pulaski December 9th and 10th or the Tybee Teddy Bear Tea Party December 11th at the Tybee Island Wedding Chapel! Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! Since today is about all things spooky, and nothing says Halloween more than pumpkins, we though we’d share some amazing pumpkins with you! There are even a few pirates and a pretty frightening fish in the mix!

Just a fraction of the amazing talent of Ray Villifane!

These fabulous creations are the work of the outrageously talented artist, Ray Villifane of Villifane Studios. Aren’t they amazing? Mind-blowing would even be a better word! His pumpkins are world famous, but he doesn’t just stop with gorgeous gourds; Ray is also an amazing sand sculptor as well.

There are so many exquisite examples of his work on his website, so make sure you head over there for even more amazing art! You can even follow him on the Villifane Studios Facebook Page. Grab a cup of coffee or hot cider and spend some time in his galleries. His work is truly out-of-this-world!

Have a wonderful night boys and ghouls! Remember to be safe while you are out and about tonight. Happy Haunting from Mermaid Cottages!
