Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races

This Summer has been so much fun we just don’t want to let it end. The Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races are coming up on September 12. 2015. Thankfully, the weather stays very mild down here and that means more fun for everyone! The races will shove off from A-J’s Dockside, 1315 Chatham Ave and proceeds will benefit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. There will be three races with staggered start times:

Tybee River Race: 6 1Ž2 miles on the tidal river separating Tybee and Little Tybee Islands.
Little Tybee Challenge: 8 miles, circumnavigates part of Little Tybee Island.
Race Across the River for Gold Sponsors: Our Gold sponsors compete for a grand prize.

Flying Dogs In Savannah

Head on down to the Georgia coast this weekend and enjoy the flying dogs in Savannah! It’s time for the Hyperflyte Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship Qualifier this coming weekend, March 7 and 8. Attendance is free of charge. The event benefits Pets for Vets, an organization that is dedicated to supporting veterans and providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training, and pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from a companion animal. “Medical studies have proven that animals have significant effect on improving mental and physical health, which includes depression and anxiety, symptoms experienced by many serving in the military,” says Chief Master Sergeant James Fox, who is the mastermind of starting this event here in the Greater Savannah area. Participating local pet rescue agencies as well as Islands High School’s Veterinary Science program will also benefit from the event. Families and friends are invited to enjoy this unique event and applaud these talented canine athletes!

It’s February and that means it’s A Whole Month of Puppy Love With Mermaid Cottages! All month, pets stay free and some pet guests even receive a Mini Morsel Pet Portrait Session with Oh Joy! And, while you’re here, be sure to get out and enjoy all the pet friendly adventures around Tybee Island and Savannah! For instance, this coming Sunday, February 8th, is Super Museum Sunday! Join the Georgia Historical Society from noon-4 p.m. for Super Museum Sunday when over 40 cultural institutions, historic sites, house museums, art museums, and other points of interest in Savannah and coastal Georgia open their doors to the public. The event is free and open to the public (For more information contact the Georgia Historical Society).

In particular, I love the pet adventures when I visit Fort Pulaksi National Monument. This national treasure has it all. There are interpretive programs, miles of lush walking trails through more than 5000 acres of coastal marshlands, a 150 year old lighthouse, and an abundance of wildlife. Dogs are allowed throughout the grounds; just remember they must be leashed and under their owner’s control at all times. …

Oh Joy! A Mini Morsel Session with Mermaid Cottages is your treat when you stay in a pet friendly cottage February 6-15, 2015! That’s right. Guests with dogs staying February 6-15, 2015 will receive a free photo shoot as part of your visit. The photos will be sent to each guest electronically and you can also arrange to have them professionally printed for purchase. Pets can sit for their own portraits and we’re okay if their well-behaved humans get in the pictures, too. Most of our cottages are dog friendly and some of them are just purrfect for cats, too. We’re celebrating Puppy Love, but your February stay can be just as cat-tastic, too. Just check our collection for our cat friendly cottages or ask a Mermaid when you call.
