TRY-BEE Triathlon

try-bee on tybeeGet ready to swim, bike and run your way around Tybee Island as the TRY-BEE Triathlon comes to town!  A triathlon is a multi–stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines and our beautiful island makes for the perfect venue.  Many seasoned competitors are already signed up to make the race and there’s still room for you to join on or to cheer on your favorite athlete.

Swim: The swim portion will be a 750 meter ocean swim. Participants will swim out 50 meters, then turn parallel to the shore and swim with the current for 650 meters prior to swimming back into shore. The transition area is located just on the other side of the boardwalk and baby pools will be provided for rinsing the sand off your feet.

Bike: The bike is an out and back ride which is nearly completely flat. There is one hill which is the bridge off of Tybee Island. One mile after the bridge, participants will turn right into Fort Pulaski State Park, do a loop around the park and then head back to transition. The bike is full of beautiful marsh-scapes and coastal birds. The bike should prove to be VERY fast.

Run: The run course will be an out and back in the neighborhoods around Tybee Island. Participants will find aid stations at miles .75, 1.5 and 2.25. The course is completely flat and very fast.

A sure way to make a great showing is to start out with your own personal staging area.  Mermaid Cottages has two great cottages available and there’ll surely be lots of competition for both. …
