Tybee Clean Beach Volunteers is our favorite group to clean with. The Mermaids have been a part of this cleaning effort since it’s inception in 2016 and Head Mermaid Diane was one of the founding members, too.
Tybee Clean Beach Volunteers is a grass-roots organization made up of local volunteers who sweep Tybee’s beaches free of trash on a regular basis. The group recycles or reuses as much of the recovered debris as possible much like our Mermaids do as a part of our cottages management plans.
Most beach cleanups are on Sunday afternoons, but sometimes additional cleanings are necessary due to weather or holidays or special event dates that result in extra debris buildup.
Mermaid Cottages’ guests are always invited to volunteer during their visits, so be sure to check our App, the event calendar on our website, our social media and the Tybee Clean Beach Volunteers calendar, as well. Dates, time and locations may change according to the needs of our three-mile stretch of beaches.

If you’re planning to join us, report to the announced meeting location and look for the volunteers banner. Just pick up a bucket and a trash grabber and hit the beach for as long as you like! When you’re finished, simply leave the full bucket and grabber by the cart so we can sort and recycle as much of the trash as possible.
