Contests

Help Us Name that Cottage!

It’s that time again! We have a new cottage in our family here at Mermaid Cottages, and we need your help giving it a name! This contest will work the same as our last one, with a poll over on our Mermaid Cottages Facebook Page. Remember, you can’t vote here! If you want your vote to count, you have to cast it in the Facebook Poll! We already have the names to choose from, we just need your help picking the best one!

It might be a little easier for you to choose a name if you know more about the cottage…so here’s a little background! This lovely home was built in 1942 and is now owned by the daughter of the previous owner, distinguished sculptor Weis Cain Snell of Atlanta. Mr. Snell worked with muesums all over, including Atlanta Cyclorama, and he actually helped design and create Tybee’s own museum!

Our new cottage is located at 1012 Jone Avenue, only a four block stroll to the beach! The home has been fully restored and freshly decorated, and it will be available for guests starting Memorial Day weekend. The cottage has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a beautiful screened porch, and is pet friendly! You and your pet will enjoy the fenced back yard, complete with a hammock under palm trees. Just look at these wonderful pictures!

Now, if you are interested in planning a trip to this cottage, please call 912-655-6525 or email me at diane@mermaidcottages.com! But remember, we have to name this beauty! The list of names to think about is:

  • Little Acorn Cottage
  • Shady Oak Cottage
  • Made in the Shade
  • Shady Acres

Remember, don’t vote here… Click HERE to head on over to the official Facebook Poll to cast your vote for your favorite name! The poll will close and the contest will end Monday, April 25th, at 6 p.m. so make sure you vote before then! We can’t wait to see which name comes out on top!

Mermaids in Our Midst: Tanya Tisor

As most of you know, we recently had a contest to re-name one of our cottages. It was so much fun seeing all the names y’all came up with! I am also glad I wasn’t the sole person that had to decide, because they were all wonderful! By far, the winning cottage name was Tucked Inn at Tybee, and we love it! It was submitted by Tanya Tisor, and she just happens to be one of Tybee’s biggest fans. She tells us that Tybee is her favorite place in the whole world, and who can argue with that? Tanya was even kind enough to send us this great shot of herself with her beautiful children enjoying a trip to The Crab Shack here on the island!

Congratulations again Tanya on your winning name submission! Don’t be a stranger either, we hope to see you sometime this summer on Tybee!

We hope to see you soon too, dear readers! Come stay with us and become part of our special Mermaid family…we’d love to have you!

Help Us Name That Cottage!

You might have heard…we have a cottage that needs a new name! Our Nowhere to Go Cottage has been getting a complete makeover, and the name just doesn’t do her justice anymore. We asked everyone for help, and boy did y’all deliver! We got loads of great name entries. We’ve whittled them down to our top five favorites, and now we need your help again! We want to know which of the names is your favorite, and we want you to tell us over on our Mermaid Cottages Facebook Page!

Here’s how this is going to work… we discovered a Poll app and thought we’d give it a try. We will be posting the Cottage Names in a Facebook Poll on our Mermaid Cottages Facebook Page TODAY! Be on the look out for the post, because that is the only place you can cast your vote and make it count! If you comment here, or on our wall, it just won’t work, so make sure you look for the specific poll post on our Wall. You can also get to the poll by clicking the “Poll” option underneath our profile picture! Or, you can click here and go directly to the poll and cast your vote right now! We’ll be watching the poll, and Thursday, we’ll announce the Cottage Name that comes out on top!

We want to thank everyone who participated in the first round…y’all are very creative! We can’t wait to see which name you vote as new name for our cottage!

The Fish Camp Cocktail Winner!!!

We had so much fun this weekend! Saturday was the big recipe judging for the Fish Camp Cottage Cocktail Contest, and we definitely had our work cut out for us. There were plenty of cocktails, plenty of friends, and these…

were just the basics for all the recipe fun! We received so many wonderful recipes, but in the end we narrowed the field to eight finalists. And they were…

So, Saturday evening, we got to mixing and shaking and made all the recipes. Just looks like a party doesn’t it?! We had a ball, and after much debate, we had a winner! Kimberly’s Fish Tale cocktail recipe is our new Official Fish Camp Cottage Cocktail!

We settled on the Fish Tale because, well…it’s delicious! But it wasn’t just the taste because all the recipes were scrumptious! It was amazing because it can be made ahead and placed in the freezer, where it will be ready and waiting for you when you return from the beach! Best of all, it uses Georgia peaches for a great local flavor.
Thanks to everyone that entered the contest and shared all these wonderful recipes and congratulations to Kimberly! We sure hope you enjoy your 3 day/2 night stay at Fish Camp Cottage as much as we enjoyed your recipe!
