Mermaids in Our Midst: Fallon’s Hair Cut

This week, there’s an extra special Mermaid we’d like to tell you about! Fallon O’Neill (daughter of the owners of Sea Glass Cottage, Little Fish Cottage, and Tim’s Beach Gear!) has been growing her lovely locks for a while now, but just recently had 10 inches lopped off for a great cause!
Here’s the email Fallon’s mom, Tracy, sent to us:

“Hi Everyone!
Fallon has been growing her hair out for several years and went yesterday to get it cut (9.5 inches to be exact)! She’s donating her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, an organization that makes wigs for people with cancer. She was very excited and LOVES her new short, sassy haircut (and I do too!). It definitely fits her personality!! Here are some pictures of the big event…
Tracy”

What a great cause, and what a wonderful girl! Congratulations Fallon, on such a selfless donation, and we love your new short and sassy ‘do! We are so proud to have such a giving Mermaid in our midst!

Mermaid Sighting: High Tide Creations

I just love mermaid decor…especially if it is handmade! I saw this wonderful sculpture featured on the Sally Lee by the Sea blog a little while ago, and fell in love. They featured High Tide Creations, and Etsy shop full of wonderful beach creations! This mermaid has to be one of my favorites, but everything is gorgeous…it’s hard to pick just one.

Make sure to stop by next week for our sighting, too! We’ll be featuring one of our favorite artists who has a mutual love of mermaids!
Have you seen a mermaid lately? You know, they are everywhere! If you have a mermaid sighting you’d like to share, please send it to diane@mermaidcottages.com. We’d love to see it, and share it right here!

Mermaid Tales: Nora’s Cottage c 1920

703 2nd Avenue

Welcome to Nora’s Cottage, a circa 1920 Tybee treasure! Nora’s mid-island location makes it the perfect place to be close to everything Tybee has to offer. You’ll enjoy a 3 block stroll to the beach, and the out door shower when you return and need to refresh after all that beach combing. The home has a screen porch in front, perfect for relaxing with a good book, or just watching island life pass by.

Nora’s Cottage is great for a family retreat, friend escape, or anyone just wanting to slow down and relax. The cottage sleeps six comfortably, but for those groups needing more room, the home is across the street from three of our other cottages: A Mermaid’s Tale, Basking Under the Tybee Sun, and Good Times. The quiet residential neighborhood is perfect for bicycle rides all over the island, so pack your wheels! Don’t want to bother with packing your bulky bike? Visit Tim’s Beach Gear for bicycles and anything else you might need during your stay on the island!
Don’t leave your furry friends behind at home either…Nora’s is pet friendly! Make sure you bring your best friends along. They are sure to enjoy the fenced in yard and the large deck for sun puddle naps!

This beautiful cottage has been selected to be on the National Register of Historic Places, but it holds an extra special place in the hearts of John and Ed, grandsons of the cottage’s namesake Grandma Nora. She lived here for many years. John and Ed spent many a summer in the cottage and have taken great pride in restoring the home. We can’t wait to share that love and care with you! Make your plans to visit Tybee and stay at Nora’s Cottage, you’ll be glad you did. This historic Tybee cottage is just waiting for you…see you soon!

The Fish Camp Cocktail Winner!!!

We had so much fun this weekend! Saturday was the big recipe judging for the Fish Camp Cottage Cocktail Contest, and we definitely had our work cut out for us. There were plenty of cocktails, plenty of friends, and these…

were just the basics for all the recipe fun! We received so many wonderful recipes, but in the end we narrowed the field to eight finalists. And they were…

So, Saturday evening, we got to mixing and shaking and made all the recipes. Just looks like a party doesn’t it?! We had a ball, and after much debate, we had a winner! Kimberly’s Fish Tale cocktail recipe is our new Official Fish Camp Cottage Cocktail!

We settled on the Fish Tale because, well…it’s delicious! But it wasn’t just the taste because all the recipes were scrumptious! It was amazing because it can be made ahead and placed in the freezer, where it will be ready and waiting for you when you return from the beach! Best of all, it uses Georgia peaches for a great local flavor.
Thanks to everyone that entered the contest and shared all these wonderful recipes and congratulations to Kimberly! We sure hope you enjoy your 3 day/2 night stay at Fish Camp Cottage as much as we enjoyed your recipe!
