Well, seeing as Seaside Sisters is the best little shore house on Tybee Island, it’s just even more delicious when Mary Kay Andrews comes to visit.  Our favorite New York Times best selling author has written a cookbook, y’all, and her recipes are just as yummy as the characters in her novels.  She can stir up a whole mess of trouble with her plot twists and she always whips up a bodacious buffet of triumphs for her female leads.  Just imagine what she can do with a mixing bowl and a whisk!

Y’all come on down and meet Mary Kay on Saturday, May 20, from 1-4 p.m.  She’s signing copies of her first cookbook, The Beach House Cookbook, and serving up her signature soufflé of wit and wisdom.

There will be heaping, helping portions of refreshments, because it’s only proper when southern folks get together.  Sweetie Pies will sell special “Sweetie Pie” ice cream sandwiches made from an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe in THE BEACH HOUSE COOKBOOK. As an extra special bonus, Tybee Island’s own 13-yr old Ian Doyle Jones, from  the Food Network Kids’ BBQ Championship cook-off, will be using the recipe from Mary Kay’s cookbook to serve up some BBQ pork butt!  A silent auction and raffle drawings add the icing to this event, with a portion of the proceeds going to our local Tybee Meals on Wheels program.  Ain’t life even more delectable when folks come together and make it possible for so many more to enjoy nutritious meals!

The Beach House Cookbook, with full color photographs and more than 90 menu-based recipes, reflects Mary Kay Andrews easy, breezy approach to cooking and entertaining. From an early spring dinner of cherry balsamic-glazed pork medallions, to a Mediterranean-inspired sizzling garlic shrimp appetizer, to fresh fish tacos to a Fourth of July beach picnic with buttermilk brined fried chicken and potato salad, to a New Year’s Day open house featuring roast oysters, home-cured gravlax, grits-and-greens casserole and lemon pound cake, all the recipes are designed to put home cooks in a permanently carefree, coastal state of mind.

The event, co-sponsored by Seaside Sisters and Mermaid Cottages, is free and open to the public, with donations to Tybee Meals on Wheels cheerfully accepted.  We can’t wait to dig in and dish with MKA at SSS and support MOW, too!  We’ve already set a place for you, so be sure to bring a healthy appetite for lots of culinary and literary delights!
