Plan your Tybee Island Destination Wedding and have a ball!

So you got engaged and you’re planning your wedding, but you aren’t quite sure what to do. You know Tybee Island is your favorite place in the world and you know we have beautiful beaches.  Why not have a destination beach wedding?! Invite your guests for a fun, family and friend wedcation!

You can get married on Tybee’s beaches with 2-125 or so people. While Tybee is small, it’s chock full of great options. If it’s just a small group and you’re not setting up chairs or archways, you can just walk out onto the beach with your officiant and get married. If you’re setting anything up, you do need a permit from the City of Tybee Island. Remember, all beaches are public, so even though it’s your special day it’s the entire beach’s special day, too. During certain times of the year and at any time of day you’ll have lots of extra guests who are super excited for you. Reminders: No generators, no fake or silk flowers dropped on the sand, no roping off areas and no pets on the beach.  And, always pick up after yourself. A beach ceremony is a fun and exciting way to celebrate your special day.

If you are a Georgia resident, you can get your marriage license in your county. If you are from out of state, you will need to get your license in Chatham County (Savannah). However, licenses are good the day you get them (it takes about 20 minutes and $70) and have no expiration date.

For the reception, you can go to one of Tybee Island’s or Savannah’s many amazing restaurants with a small group. You can even find bakeries to deliver a little cake. If you have 25 or more people or want your own dedicated space, look into some local venues like the Guard House or Memorial Park. There are venues for larger groups, as well (up to 125 or so), like the American Legion, the Shrine Club or the Tybee Wedding Chapel.

Please Note: while your Mermaid Cottage may be large, or cute and charming, weddings and events are not allowed in any vacation rental home. Please plan accordingly.

Utilize a local wedding planner as a great way to follow the rules and to have an advocate for you when you can’t be here to plan all the little details. Some offer same service to full service coordination, or they have packages for certain beachy wedding needs.

Most of all, enjoy your special day. If you’re planning an outdoor wedding the weather is up to Mother Nature. Hope for the best and plan for the rest. A destination wedding, while seemingly daunting, is actually a great way to explore your fun and adventurous side with a few or many loved ones in tow.
