Mermaids in Our Midst: Lorraine Powell

It is never easy to say goodbye, but it is extra tough when the person you must let go is such an amazing individual. I recently had to say goodbye to my good friend, Lorraine Powell. Lorraine was one amazing lady. Not only was she a huge success in the hospitality industry, she was also a valued member of the Georgia Chapter of Meeting Professionals International for 24 years. There, she used he influence to  bring attention to a cause she was very passionate about- the annual Atlanta Ovarian Cancer Walk.

When Lorraine was diagnosed with ovarian cancer herself, it never stopped her dedication or determination. She served as an active member of the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance. As a patient, she participated in Southeastern Gynecological Oncology’s Buddy Program, a program providing patient-to-patient support for fellow patients in need.

Lorraine was an amazing person, passionate volunteer, and, I am honored to say, friend. She will always be an inspiration to me and to others she touched with her beautiful spirit. If you are in Atlanta, make sure you check out the Atlanta Ovarian Walk and the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance. For that matter, find a walk near you -where ever that may be- to support as well. It’s a great cause that brings attention to an awful disease that really, really needs a cure.

Mermaid Sighting: Movie Mermaids!

Check out the story behind the picture here: http://tiny.cc/7cht7

Of course, most of us have seen one (or all!) of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. What with all the beautiful ocean and beach scenes, exciting swash-buckling, and the wonderful Johnny Depp, what’s not to love! Well, a fellow mermaid brought this link to my attention, and of course, I had to share! There’s an article over on the Reel Movie Nation website about the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and I couldn’t be more excited to say that mermaids are making an appearrence! The concept art is so awesome. These mermaids aren’t exactly the friendly sort, but that doesn’t take away from their grace or mystique. I just love this…does anyone else get a jelly fish vibe from her tendrils?!

Make sure you visit the article link to see more amazing concept art from the movie!

Isn’t that amazing?! And, the article has a lot of information about the film, the artists behind it, and the plot, so make sure to explore! The movie is supposed to premiere May 20th this year, so here’s a trailer to whet your appetite!

Have you seen a mermaid? We’d love to know about it! Please send your sightings and stories to diane@mermaidcottages.com and allow us to share it with our Mermaid Community! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Mermaids in Our Midst: Brooks Cottage

Spring seems to be in full swing around here, and we couldn’t be happier! Warm weather means more people heading to the beach, so with changing seasons comes busier times here at Mermaid Cottages! Here’s what a recent guest from Rome, GA sent to us after a recent stay:

Brooks Cottage was perfect for our girls weekend! There was plenty of room and the cottage was large enough that we all had our own space if we wanted some quiet time. Loved the roomy front and back porches, and the sleeping porch! Just a few blocks from the beach was also a huge plus! We would definitely stay again. And, the sales people at Mermaid Cottages were so easy and pleasant to work with. Thanks so much for the great stay!” ~kmathis

Thanks to K. for sharing! We are so glad your girls getaway was a success!

Have you stayed with Mermaid Cottages recently? We’d love to hear from you too! Please find us on our Facebook page and click the Reviews link (on the left) to share your Mermaid Cottages experience with everyone!
