It’s sea turtle season on Tybee Island, and that means we are more conscious than ever about how our environment affects these amazing and beautiful creatures! It is so very important, especially for cottages right on the beach, to be aware of light pollution. Light pollution- from both indoor and outdoor sources -can have a negative impact on any nocturnal wildlife, especially our beloved sea turtles. Brightly lit areas discourage females from nesting as well as disorient new hatchlings, drawing them away from the ocean and toward dangers-a-plenty. If you are visiting Tybee during sea turtle season from May 1st thru Oct 31st, the most important thing to remember is that it is Lights Out for Sea Turtles time!

Mermaid Cottages cares immensely about this cause and we do everything we can to insure our beach front cottages- Doyle’s on the Beach and Crabby Jo’s -are super sea turtle friendly! We even support the Tybee Sea Turtle Project through sales of our very own Mermaid Morning Bliss Coffee! You know, these precious marine treasures face enough natural dangers as it is, so we need to do everything possible to get them their best chance at a long, healthy life!
So, how in the world can you make a difference? Well, check out this wonderful list of simple steps from Defenders.org!

Having alternative, sea turtle friendly lighting is a great way to have lights where you need them and still be sea turtle friendly, but it’s just a good habit to close shades after dark, remove all obstacles from the beach, and turn off lights in rooms that aren’t in use. And hey, those good green habits no matter where you are!
We are very proud of our efforts, and the efforts of Tybee Island, to be sea turtle friendly! We hope you are too!
Welcome to 1106 Lovell Avenue and Tucked Inn at Tybee Cottage! The newly named cottage used to be called No Where to Go, but with the wonderful makeover, we felt a new name was in order! We’ve completely re-done the cottage, and the new name was the winning submission of our Mermaid Cottages Facebook Page name contest. We are super excited about the home’s renewal, and couldn’t be more delighted with how beautiful everything turned out!
This home is a classic beach retreat, just perfect for families, a girls weekend, or even a girl scout adventure. Tucked Inn at Tybee sits on a large lot, so there’s plenty of outdoor living to do. Bring your pets too, this home is still Fido friendly!
Grill out, enjoy a book on the back deck, or the shade of the mature palms. Anything goes! You may feel wonderfully secluded, but you aren’t far from Butler Avenue and everything the island has to offer! Take an easy one and a half block stroll to the beach, ride your bike to the local IGA Market for supplies, or visit some of Tybee’s favorite restaurants…you are close to it all!
Need to feel the bliss of slowing down? Plan a visit and start looking forward to some lazy island days. Island time is all the time on Tybee! See you soon!
Welcome to 1407 Miller Avenue and Tybee Daze Cottage! This beautiful home is ideal for a family, girls getaway, or even a paradise just for yourself. The original heart of pine floors throughout the cottage have been newly restored and gives the entire home a cozy glow. The open floor plan makes it effortless to enjoy being together, no matter what everyone is up to! Relax inside, enjoy local art, and lounge in the beautiful sun room, or take the fun outside to the large deck and lush, private back yard. There’s a grill to put to good use, and even fruits trees to enjoy!
Miller Avenue is about four or five blocks from Tybee’s gorgeous beaches, and is an easy stroll to the Back River fishing pier and Alley 3 kayak launch area. You are never far from our island’s wonderful Downtown, which includes the Pier and Pavilion, great shops and restaurants, and the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. It’s truely a cottage that has it all!
