Fish Camp cottage- the getaway of Southern Super Stars!

We keep telling everyone that the “slow season” is the best time to come and visit us. Slow to us means the crowds are gone, though we still have alot of visitors, but the restaurants and shops are open, there just aren’t any long waits to be served or shop. The weather is just gorgeous- alittle chilly, but still beach walkable weather for sure!
Tom Sullivan, host of Atlanta and Company , the very popular morning TV show was here enjoying Fish Camp Cottage with his best friend and dog Parker. We were very lucky to have such a well known celebrity from the big city of Atlanta come and enjoy one of our cottages! Tom rode bikes on the beach from Tim’s Beach Gear and just in general enjoyed slowing down ! Visit http://www.atlantaandcompany.com/ for more details on this very informative show! Tom also has his own website to check out http://www.tomsullivan.net/ ( read about his connection with Ryan Seacrest!!!)
Tom checked out on Sunday and Monday our next celebrity to arrive at Fish Camp Cottage was the NY Times Best selling author, Mary Kay Andrews! There is no rest for writers, she just finished her last book – The Fixer Upper – and she’s starting her new book this week. The book will be set in Savannah and where better to begin then Savannah’s Beach- Tybee! Be sure to visit her blog to read what she rode about her first night at the cottage. http://www.marykayandrews.com/ Mary Kay, did you happen to notice the full collection of your books in the cottage? We’re your biggest fans!
Then if that wasn’t all – We had a celebrity from Macon, GA here visiting us- staying at” A Mermaid’s Tale ” Cottage. Terrell Sandefur, Macon’s own favorite son was here doing business in Savannah and we were honored he stayed with us. You can read Terrell’s very clever lifestyle blog, http://www.toastroundtown.com/ and learn more about his visit to Tybee and Savannah. We’re hoping his partner in crime- Ashley Smith will head down this way soon!

My dear friend David Barwick leaves Marriott

Corporate America continues to adjust to the ever changing economic situation the world faces…. My former Company, Marriott Hotels is no exception. As they continue to figure out how to survive the decrease in travel, they are eliminating jobs. One of their best was recently let go as his job was eliminated. I’ worked with David for 18 years in the Atlanta Regional Office and no one was more professional, hard working or pleasant to work with. Here is David’s email letting his many colleagues around the world know that is time with Marriott was finished.

“November 7, 2008 is my last day with Marriott. It’s been an amazing and a rewarding journey.

It’s been my profound delight and pleasure to work with you and for you.

Now, it’s off to my next great adventure…

So long for now…”

David Barwick
Gentleman Tree Farmer
The MaxieAna Preserve

Look for David to split his time between South Georgia and his family tree farms and his home with his family in Atlanta. No one will do it better then David…

Reading David’s announcement also had me thinking about my amazing journey with Marriott over the years…. The Today Show is showcasing 4 places on earth with Meredith, Matt, Al and Ann on the 4 corners of the world. Al is in Iceland and they showcased the Blue Lagoon! I was lucky enough to travel there on Marriott business and I too enjoyed the healing powers of soaking in the Blue Lagoons 100 degrees of geo thermal heat and minerals. Visit http://www.bluelagoon.com/ to see more of the details of this truly unique experience!!

I’m also going to follow David’s Lead and start using a new title when I close my letters and emails.. Thank you Katie McNulty for giving me this title! I can’t be a Gentlement Farmer but I can tell the world what I truly believe I’m doing on Tybee!

So, that’s it for right now!

Fairy Tales do come true.

It’s true. Girls and Guys- mark your calendar…. I was witness to the event on Saturday November 8th, 2008. The urban myth of the beautiful princess being found by her knight in shining armour and then they riding off in the sunset to a life of happiness really is true.
Ann George and Fred Suman wed in a beautiful chapel built in the 1770’s by a priest who’s been a friend for decades, surrounded by the friends and family who love them both and all were crying with true happiness. No one deserved this more then Ann and Fred. These are my friends who I blogged about earlier this year under the title ” Love at 52 1/2″ and received so many comments and calls from all of you!

Ann has waited- sometimes not so patiently- for what we all wait for- a man who loves us for exactly who and what we are at this point in our life. Not wishing for someone different or to change the person or the circumstances to be better but wanting to be with a person who is ready and looking forward to be your partner and best friend and happy to love you.. In other words, an adult… Fred has faced great loss in his life and understands happiness is something you need to go for and when you find it, embrace and hold on to with both hands.
I’ve been to many, many weddings in my life but truly don’t think I’ve ever seen two such happy people and just as important their families! Fred’s son’s and Kathy, Ann’s sister gave such remarkable true genuine toasts that you know this will be a blending of families who look forward to many, many years of happiness together.

Ann and Fred, the universe wishes you all the absolute best in life. You’ve proven that those knights do show up- even if they’re wearing black and white golf shoes!

The journey begins….

History was made on November 4th, 2008.. Two extraordinary men who love our country ran for President of the United States of America. Only one could win and the American People spoke in numbers never seen before on an election day. Senator McCain was gracious in his concession speech and we are lucky to have such a man who is a true patriot and one we can all be proud to call one of our Statesmen.

Now the hard work begins. We need to come together as a nation and work to solve the many problems and challenges we face. The two wars, the economy, the broken health care system, the terrorists who still want to cause of harm to us just because we’re Americans…..

We are all in this together. I’ve always been so proud to be an American and tonight, hearing our new President elect speak , tears are flowing down my face because we can again accomplish the dreams of our founding fathers… . This is larger then just winning an election. This is about each one of us being the best we can be , about caring for each other as fellow cit zens and our country again being the shining light for the rest of the world. This is our time and …. Yes we can…

God bless all of us, God bless our President Elect and most of all, God bless the United States of America.
