Spring is the best time to enjoy our favorite Tybee Island porches. We can’t help but feature some of our best places in celebration of warmer weather. With weather this gorgeous, even our pods of Mermaids love to perch in just the right places to see and be seen. Some are perfect for alone time for reading and for napping, while others provide just the right ambience and ocean breezes for al fresco dining. Whether you like ’em way up high or down low on top of a stoop, Mermaid Cottages has all kinds of porches. Come on down. Pick one out. Get really comfortable and hold out your hands for sweet tea, water melons and decadent desserts. It’s porch sittin’ time and we’ll show y’all just where and how to do it!
Sprawl out, belly up like an old cat drawing on the morning sun. Jackknife across the hand made quilts after a few too many mint juleps, or gather up all your sweet dreams to savor atop the day bed swing.
How ’bout a gracious, wrap-around porch that sits way up high? This one sits along the Back River where you can throw up your hand to wave at the kayakers and the paddle boarders making their way to launch
…
We’re porched on Tybee Island. No, it’s not a misprint. We’re not saying we’re parched. Given that we live on a quirky little island with plenty of watering holes, we are not sucking in the lively libations department. As we say in the South, “We’uns is porched!” We love our porches and they’re just as much a part of our quirky, laid back, “it’ll get done when it gets done“, “don’t rush me and make me waste my Sweet Tea”, and “talk to the sand ’cause beach hair don’t care” laissez faire. We like ’em down low so we don’t fall off of ’em after being sociable and neighborly with our afternoon cocktails. We like ’em up high so we can rock in rhythm with the waves chasing the tides. We even like ’em stacked up two or three stories high like a Church lady’s hair that gets jacked-up-to-Jesus before Sunday morning services. Yep, we like our porches. In fact, here are several saintly porches that make us feel closer to heaven every time we kick off our flip flops and relax.
Yes, this large front porch comes with rocking chairs and there’s a large back screened porch, too. Guests love this super location, as it’s close to the Alley 3 paddleboard and kayak launch, the Back River fishing pier, and AJ’s Dockside. You’ll love the easy walk to our 14th Street beach and to downtown Tybee.
Brooks Cottage includes three screened porches, each more magical than the other. It’s pet-friendly and it’s also a great house for family get-togethers! You’ll enjoy the fully fenced yard and it’s close proximity to the south end beach, as well as the Back River beach!
This Tybee landmark was originally built as a soldiers’ mess hall. It’s been lovingly restored and preserved for your pleasure. Pet-friendly, a fenced-in yard, a wraparound screened porch and just two short blocks to the beach along a secret, private path.
A proper Southern porch is always fabulous. Morning meditations. Early evening libations. Chatting up friends. Curling up with a good book. Listening to your heart lights.
From the porch you’ll be dazzled by sizzling sunsets as they slip beneath the sea. Then, chill your finest Champagne in preparation for “Howl at the Moon” toasts to a full moon with your late night Vespers.
Yes, we’re porched on Tybee Island. Now, this is just a sampling, mind you. Listen to your flip flops. They’re begging you to slip them on long enough to make the one tank trip. Once you get settled in with one of our Mermaid Cottages, you’ll be overdressed if you’re anything but barefoot.
Here are 13 pretty porches of Tybee Island. Some sit up high for lots of people watching and others are ground level so you can stroll right in. Some extend the inside into the outside and they all are perfect for experiencing al fresco adventures all around our barrier island.
