Mermaids In Our Midst: My Hair Raising 40th Birthday

I have stayed at many of the wonderful Mermaid Cottages over the years. Each is as individual as their name. All are charming, cozy and comfortable. They’re stocked with everything you could want or need. I’ve stayed for girls’ weekend getaways, family trips, working vacations and for charity functions. Diane and her staff have always been friendly and accommodating to whatever needs the trip requires. Anytime I plan a trip to Tybee Island or the Savannah area, I stay with Mermaid Cottages and recommend them highly to my friends. Your stay will always be memorable and enjoyable.
I became involved the breast cancer awareness when my cousin, Cathy Cooper Thomas, lost her battle in November 2006. My life became PINK that day. I signed up and walked my first SGK 3-Day in 2007. That first walk changed my life. Those recently diagnosed, the fighters, the survivors and the friends I have lost have kept me involved. I have walked the 2007, 2008 and 2009 3-Day and I will be walking again this year. I have also participated in the Race for the Cure, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Atlanta 2-Day walk. I am also involved with the Alzheimer’s Association and the Scleroderma Foundation; both having affected my family.

I am planning a HUGE fundraiser for Saturday, September 8, 2012, which also happens to be my 40th birthday. Location and time TBA. If I raise $1,500 for this event, I WILL SHAVE MY HEAD! I’m calling it My Hair Raising 40th Birthday Celebration & Fundraiser! My hair will be donated to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. The money raised will be split between my SGK 3-Day fundraising commitment and Paint Georgia Pink, a local non-profit benefiting the uninsured, under insured and under served in Atlanta and the state of Georgia who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Anything over $1,500 will be split between Scleroderma Foundation, Georgia Chapter and the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer’s North Fulton/Gwinnett Chapter in Duluth, GA.

My Hair Raising 40th Birthday Mermaids In Our Midst

I started making The Pink Ribbon Link’s Dang It Dolls for patients going through chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The idea progressed from there with requests for other causes, themes and styles. There are now over 450 designs with more being added all the time. The PRL’s Dang It Dolls are so cute. You don’t even have to use them to relieve stress, just looking at them makes you feel better! I donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each doll to cancer research, awareness, education & treatment. Each doll is individually HANDMADE in Atlanta, GA. As such, no two are exactly alike. www.ThePRLsDangItDolls.com
