On December 14 and 15, Fort Pulaski commemorates the Confederate Nog party of 1861 each year during the holiday season. The long-lived Savannah tradition provides night-time tours of the historic fort by candlelight and oil lamps. The original party, held at Christmas time in 1861, gave the Confederate garrison at Fort Pulaski a respite from the tension of impending battle. The fort casemates, armed with cannons, were decorated with holiday garlands. As one soldier commented, tables groaned under the weight of fine delicacies sent down from the city. With song and good cheer, the men celebrated a light-hearted moment as the dark clouds of war gathered over Savannah.
On December 15, neighbors board the trolley and spread singing joy throughout the island. This year’s sponsor and meeting location is Marlin Monroe’s @ 404 Butler Avenue. Gathering begins at 5pm and the Caroling Trolley will depart at 6pm — rain or shine. Flashlights are recommended. One trolley will be transporting this year, so be sure to buy tickets early! For more information, please send an email here.

This year, let Christmas Eve and Christmas Day be the days you take it easy and let someone else take care of the “food frenzy”. Follow the link where you can let just that happen. New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Bring in the New Year with a bang! Enjoy the show launched from the Tybee Pier at the stroke of midnight at one of Tybee’s many restaurants and bars, or watch it from the beach. It promises to be spectacular!
This event has become a Tybee tradition, held every January 1st at noon at the Pier on the south end of the island. Plan to be with us next year, invigorating your soul with a cleansing (and cold) plunge into the Atlantic.
Of course, all the best visits start with the cottage charm and coastal calm of Mermaid Cottages. Call us today and let us help you select just the right Tybee Home For The Holidays!
