Donna and her Gal Pals stayed over with us at Enlisted Mens Mess Hall circa 1929 and we love this note and these wonderful photos Donna sent:
“I want to tell you that I had one of the BEST VACATIONS at Tybee that I
have ever had there and I started coming in 1990. Sometimes I stay one
night in Savannah on my way to Florida for spring break and other times I
have spent several days at Tybee. When I have multiple days I always stay
at Tybee. I brought two friends with me that had never been to Tybee and
they fell in love with it as much as I have loved it all these years. We
drove around the island scoping out Mermaid cottages so that one friend can
come back with her husband, her kids and their spouses and her
grandchildren. She wants a Mermaid when she comes. This was my first
experience in a cottage and I will never do it any other way again. I hope
to make repeat visits to the Enlisted Men’s Mess Hall. I plan to work one
more year before I retire and then would love to spend a month on Tybee in
January or February. The MERMAIDS are wonderful and we appreciate all that
you did to make planning our trip so easy. My friends think that I am the
greatest vacation planner for finding this wonderful place. Thanks to
Seaside Sisters for recommending Mermaids when I was there in March. You
are wonderful. THANK YOU. The only bad thing was having to return home to
39 degree temps and having to come to work this AM.” -Donna V.
Enlisted Mens Mess Hall circa 1929 is a Tybee landmark originally built as a soldiers’ mess hall. It has been completely restored and preserved and it features beautiful, decorator touches by Kevin and Layla Palmer of The Lettered Cottage. This pet-friendly cottage is complete with a fenced-in yard, a wrap around screened porch and it’s just two blocks from the beach. Located in the Ft. Screven Officer’s Row, this charming cottage is full of history!
