Mermaid Sighting: Movie Mermaids!

Check out the story behind the picture here: http://tiny.cc/7cht7

Of course, most of us have seen one (or all!) of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. What with all the beautiful ocean and beach scenes, exciting swash-buckling, and the wonderful Johnny Depp, what’s not to love! Well, a fellow mermaid brought this link to my attention, and of course, I had to share! There’s an article over on the Reel Movie Nation website about the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and I couldn’t be more excited to say that mermaids are making an appearrence! The concept art is so awesome. These mermaids aren’t exactly the friendly sort, but that doesn’t take away from their grace or mystique. I just love this…does anyone else get a jelly fish vibe from her tendrils?!

Make sure you visit the article link to see more amazing concept art from the movie!

Isn’t that amazing?! And, the article has a lot of information about the film, the artists behind it, and the plot, so make sure to explore! The movie is supposed to premiere May 20th this year, so here’s a trailer to whet your appetite!

Have you seen a mermaid? We’d love to know about it! Please send your sightings and stories to diane@mermaidcottages.com and allow us to share it with our Mermaid Community! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Be on the look out for the post, because that is the only place you can cast your vote and make it count! 1001 Ways to get TYBEE-IZED:The Siege at Ft. Pulaski

It’s the 149th Anniversary of the Siege and Reduction of Fort Pulaski!

During the Civil War, Union troops launched the first systematic use of rifled artillery against a masonry fort.  They lined up cannons and bombarded Ft. Pulaski until the walls were breached and the Union Troops took over.  This one battle changed the make-up and design of future forts around the world!

Ft. Pulaski and the Tybee Island Historical Society will commemorate this historic battle April 9 and 10, 2011.  Among the many demonstrations and re-enactments, cannon firings and soldier maneuvers will be presented.

Come out, learn and enjoy the monumental history of Ft. Pulaski and the Tybee Island Lighthouse.

For more information and a complete list of activities for both days go to http://tybeevisit.com/tybeebattleatsiegeapril9-10
