Mermaids in Our Midst: Send a Smile!

photo from The Send and Mend Experiment on Facebook

Mermaid Cottages is super excited to share a great project with you! The Send and Mend Experiment on Facebook is a way for you to send encouragement and a smile to pretty much anyone who may need it!

Our friend Troy let us know about this wonderful project when he decided to share the link to our post about our good friend Leonard Miller. The mission of The Send and Mend Experiment is to use something as simple as a greeting card to change as many lives and heal as many hearts as possible! There isn’t really a better reason that that, now is there?

This is a great way to take just a minute and make some else’s day a little brighter. Make sure you check out The Send and Mend Experiment on Facebook. Send a card and make someone smile today!

Mermen in Our Midst: Leonard Miller

Here at Mermaid Cottages, and all over the Tybee Island, Leonard Miller is known as The Sand Man! Leonard is quite the artist and has helped us with several projects through the years. We just love his work in Madelyn’s on the Marsh, and his sand creations are famous.

Recently, Leonard has been having some pretty rough complications from diabetes. Last week, he had surgery to combat a leg infection and though he’s resting and doing well now, but he lost his big toe. Because of all this, Leonard isn’t going to be able to work for quite a while. He is such a wonderful part of our community and holds a super special place in our hearts here at Mermaid Cottages….that’s why we want to help any way that we can.

Leonard will be recuperating for a while and he is really going to miss visiting friends and fans since he won’t be able to get out and about for at least a month. So, we are sure he’d love to be showered with cards, calls, and visits while he gets better! If you want to help out, please send your thoughts, prayers, well wishes, or contributions to Leonard, he’d love to get them! You can send cards and letters to Leonard Miller at 218 West 37th Street, Savannah, GA, 31401, or give him a call at 912.667.3374.     We just love our Leonard and we wish him an extra speedy recovery. Get well soon Leonard!

Live Like a Local: Thankful on Tybee!

Thanksgiving is upon us and we are so thankful. Good food, family, friends…they are all a blessing! For those of you spending the holiday here on Tybee, there are plenty of things going on, so no getting bored! Doc’s Bar has a full week of festive holiday plans, so head on out and join in the fun! Tonight is their Ladies Bumper Pool Night (Happy Hour pricing for all the ladies!) and Thomas Oliver will be there performing from 7 to 10 pm.
Thursday is the big day…Thanksgiving! If you are away from family, or simply just need some place to be, Doc’s opens at noon. They are celebrating with a FREE turkey and dressing dinner, starting at 2 pm for everyone who wants to be there. Please bring a covered dish to fill out the feast if you are able; if not, that’s OK too! It’s just a day for us to stop and realize all we have, and be thankful!
If you don’t make it out for dinner, Doc’s starts rockin’ at 8 pm with Roy and the Circuit Breakers, and they are playing until the turkeys go home! The holidays continues through the weekend with football and the best dance music on Tybee! Sunday, make sure you make it to Doc’s for their special Dinner and Music night from 5:30 to 7:30 pm…fabulous live music from Thomas Oliver and your first drink is free! They are offering up Homemade Meatloaf and Chicken Parmesan, so skip the turkey left overs and come out to Doc’s!
There’s a lot more happening on Tybee for the Holidays, but for now, have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
