Tybee Polar Plunge

The 12th Annual Tybee Polar Plunge features an invigorating New Year’s Day dip in the Atlantic. This year, all registrants get to participate in a Guinness World Records® Official Attempt to break the record for the “Largest Gathering of People Wearing Swim Caps”. Participants are invited to wear crazy costumes or funny hats as they jump into the waves. All event proceeds benefit the restoration of the Tybee Post Theater. You can do 1, 2, 3, 4, or all 5 events – whichever you choose. If you participate in all 5 events, the distances add up to 26.2 miles – a full marathon. We are very excited about bringing this event to you and hope you will be excited about taking on the challenge!

SCAD Sand Art Festival

This annual festival features competitions using sand and objects found on the beach, including shells and seaweed, as art. Categories include: sand castle design, sand sculptures, sand relief and wind sculpture.

Tybee Island Beach Bum Parade

The Beach Bum Parade might surprise the unsuspecting visitor. Like most parades, there are floats pulled behind cars and trucks. Unlike most parades, however, the floats, often trailers or boats, are filled with water-throwing paraphernalia. Spectators, lined up along the parade route on Butler Avenue, armed with buckets, squirt guns and hoses. What results is an all-out water war for fun loving beach bums of all ages.

Tybee’s annual celebration of America’s birthday. Come early and plan to stay late as this is one of Tybee’s busiest days of the year and the island fills up fast. The show starts around dark thirty (around 9:15pm).  The fireworks are staged on the pier, but they are easily viewed from any of Tybee’s eastern beaches.

Savannah St. Patricks Day Celebration

Savannah is known for hosting the second largest parade in the world. However, all that have seen it say it is the grandest in the world! We begin this religious and cultural celebration approximately two weeks prior to the parade. Some of these traditional events include the Investiture of the Grand Marshal, Greening of the Fountain in Forsyth Park, Tara Feis, Celtic Cross Mass and Ceremony, and Sergeant William Jasper Green Ceremony. On the morning of the parade, Mass is held at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in historic downtown Savannah. We welcome you to attend any and all of these events and learn about our rich Irish heritage.
