TYBEE FLOATILLA “WILL FLOAT FOR HISTORY” IS LOOKING FOR A FEW VOLUNTEERS THIS SUNDAY, JULY 1ST!

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HAND OUT T-SHIRTS AS PEOPLE ARRIVE AT THE CRAB SHACK, BEGINNING AT APPROXIMATELY 2:30PM.

A Mermaid Cottages vacation is like family, friends and tradition. You’ve got to make the time to let those you love know that you see them, hear them and cherish time spent together. Tybee Tides Cottage is a great place to make this happen and Joni, a recent guest, shared memories of her family’s latest visit:

Then comes a week full of sunsets, bike rides, slip n’ sliding, low… tide exploring, water balloons, backyard cookouts, Monopoly marathons on the screened porch, and loads of little girl giggles. We are always pampered by the outstanding crew at Mermaid Cottages, and of all the places around the world we have been, Mermaid Cottages is far and away the most professional and welcoming. Mermaids In The Media: Spring Fever Epidemic!

Our Mermaids In The Media this week features our literary gal pal, Mary Kay Andrews! MKA’s latest, Spring Fever, is #5 with a bullet! No, MKA didn’t do in one of her male leads, but her latest book is #5 on the New York Times Best Sellers List and it’s so hot it’s set off a Spring Fever epidemic!

MKA has been crisscrossing the country on her book tour, but I just had to reach out to her when I spied this mention in the June issue of Deep South Magazine. The article detailed different beaches that had inspired famous writers. The article talked about Tennessee Williams and Key West, Pat Conroy and Daufuskie Island, Edgar Allen Poe and Sullivan Island and others. Then, lo and behold, out popped this, “Newer on the Southern literary scene but making just as big a splash with her classic beach reads is Mary Kay Andrews. The best-selling author lives part of the time on Tybee Island and has featured the island and the Georgia coast in several of her books, like “Savannah Breeze.” Andrews’ Tybee beach cottage, The Breeze Inn, is available for rent.”

This morning on Tybee Island a die-hard group of supportive Tybee Island citizens gathered on a pirate float to greet the Travel Channel‘s Best Of The Road personalities Nikki & Dusty. they are here on Tybee to promote Tybee and 4 other locations around the country for Rand McNally’s most beautiful small-town in America award. Here are the bathing beauties in their bikini tee shirts. That’s me on the float in the middle.

The rain generated from tropical storm Debbie didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. Whether we win or not it’s an honor to be nominated for this award. I’m sure that many people whom had never heard about Tybee will now know about us.

Several of us combed the perimeter of Highway 80 for trash in preparation for their arrival. Many thanks to all of you who joined us for the clean-up. The more of you who can pitch in to keep Tybee the most beautiful town in America the better. They will be here for the next two days to complete their review.
