Sea Turtle Sightings

Tybee Island sea turtle nesting seasonWe have lots to report in Sea Turtle sightings this week, especially since our much-loved sea turtle came home!

Yep, the Tybee Island Welcome sign is truly a welcome sight thanks to our Department of Public Works and a very special home-coming.  Our sea turtle is back “nesting” and poised to receive the thousands of visitors that love to pose for photos with her!

Also, Turtle Tammy has been enjoying an active season and we appreciate her regular updates and all of the volunteers who patrol our beaches for turtle tracks and nests.  To date, Georgia has 1,165 sea turtle nests and there are still two more months of nesting.  Tammy predicts we’ll see the 2,000 nests mark reached this year.  Tybee Island currently has 8 nests and there have been 15 false crawls.

The weather and the motion of the ocean has made for a more messy beach this year, but our hard-working Department of Public Works has …

One of Tybee’s best views!

We have alot of great views here on Tybee.  Some are great views from our cottage front porches, some from decks some from windows.  This great view is on the corner of 12th Street & Venetian Ave- right down the street from Tybee Tides.   We also did a marsh clean up last weekend to be sure the marsh was free and clear of any debris and trash that flows into the water from the streets.  The cleaner the marsh, the better for all the sea life because that flows into the sea.   Love this picture and love this view!

Mermaids In The Media: She’s So Skirt!

voluntourism in Tybee IslandThis week’s Mermaids In The Media features Head Mermaid Diane and her She’s So Skirt! profile in the June issue of skirt! magazine.

The magazine says, “skirt! is all about women…their work, play, families, creativity, style, health, and wealth, bodies and souls…skirt! is an attitude.”  It’s definitely an honor for Diane to be included and it was another great opportunity to share her Mermaids Make A Difference philosophy.

Mermaid Cottages has the coziest homes away from home in Tybee Island , it’s true, but Diane makes sure …
