Voluntourism: Will Float For History

Fun events and voluntourism on Tybee IslandVoluntourism is another great way to get the most from your Tybee Island visit.  In fact, there’s a super fun opportunity that’s coming up soon and all you have to do is join in for “Will Float For History“!

Grab your friends and come take a fun and relaxing float for history down the back river!  The Tybee Floatilla invites you to join in this voluntourism event on Sunday, July 1st at 11:00 a.m.  The floatilla will begin at Alley III and Chatham Avenue and it ends at The Crab Shack, with a short break on the Criminal Island Sandbar along the way.

To register and purchase tickets in person, visit The Crab Shack on Tybee or the Register Law Firm in Savannah.  There, you will fill out a registration form and waiver and receive a koozie, rules and regulations and an entrance wrist band.  You will receive a Floatilla t-shirt upon your arrival at The Crab Shack following the Float.  TICKETS are $25 each.
To register online, visit: TybeeFloatilla.com. You will receive your koozie, rules and regulations and entrance wrist band in the mail.  You will receive a Floatilla t-shirt upon your arrival at The Crab Shack following the Float.   TICKETS $30 (includes a $5 processing fee).

Proceeds from The Tybee Floatilla “Will Float for History” will benefit the restoration of the Tybee Post theater and painting the Tybee Light Station.  If you want to join the fun, but don’t want to float, be a volunteer!  If you’re interested, please email TybeeVolunteers@gmail.com.
Now, having enjoyed a Floatilla last year, here are a few tips and recommendations:
* Use sunscreen
* Wear sunglasses
* Wear a hat/cap
* Relax and have fun, but stay to your right to stay in the current.
* Have fun and be creative with your floats
* Be patient.  You’re on Tybee Time.  There’s usually a  bottleneck at the end, so just hang out and have fun while others are being helped out.
Every Tybee Floatilla event is loads of fun and a great way to experience voluntourism during your visit! Mermaids Make A Difference and you can, too!
