A Tybee Filled Weekend

This coming weekend is going to be so fantastic we can hardly wait.  It’s no surprise that there’s no better getaway than a Tybee filled weekend!   There’s always something interesting and artsy going on and this weekend there are wonderful events scheduled from Thursday all the way through Sunday.

Horsepen Creek Cottage & Dock circa 1949 comes with your own private dock for bird watching, crabbing and fishing right off the dock!

This Thursday will be a great time to mingle and to bid and win during the Tybee Island Kite Festival Auction.  The Silent Dinner Auction is at 6 p.m. at the North Beach Bar & Grill.  You’ll be able to bid on art, jewelry, kites and more.  All proceeds will benefit the Savannah Parkinson’s Support Group and other Movement Disorders Groups.

Friday through Sunday you can help support Savannah area Children’s Charities and enjoy delicious seafood at the Aquacurean Seafood & Spirits Celebration.  The event will showcase some of best seafood and hand-crafted spirits from Savannah and around the country. The AquaCurean Challenge includes a seafood recipe competition and a hand-crafted cocktail competition.

First thing Saturday morning you can also enjoy the 2014 Tybee Turtle Trot 5k.  The trot starts at 8 am at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center Next to the Tybee Pier.  This is the kick off for Georgia’s sea turtle nesting season.  And, the GEORGIA SEA TURTLE CENTER is releasing a Loggerhead Sea Turtle patient back to the ocean from Tybee!

Dutton-Waller circa 1938 is a Historic Tybee Raised Cottage that’s beautifully restored and located in the Back River District.
Next, trot on down to the River’s End Campground for the TCT Trailer Trot.  From 11:30am to 4pm you can see over 70 vintage trailers from 1939-1980′s.  All proceeds benefit local charities.

Saturday night at 8 p.m. point your toes towards the Old Elementary School for the Traditional Irish Music Concert.  A traditional Irish concert featuring traditional Irish instrumentation from Brian McNamara, Kieran O’Hare, Liz Knowles, and Pat Broaders.

Finally, Sunday will be a great day for kites.  The Tybee Island Kite Flying Festival starts at 11 a.m. in the North Beach Parking Lot at the beach area.  Come out to fly a kite to support and create awareness about Parkinson’s and other movement disorders.
