Paula Deen’s Operation Backpack

paula deen's operation backpackPaula Deen’s Operation Backpack is a wonderful new way to make a difference when you visit.  Y’all know our Mermaids Make A Difference in many ways and we always have fun when we do.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to make a difference, too, and it’s so easy.  In fact, it’s as easy as pie!

Operation Backpack is helping our kids make the grade.  The West Broad Street YMCA serves all of downtown Savannah by providing an early learning center, school alternative, after school programs, summer enrichment, primary healthcare, job training, organic gardening,  nutrition, adult education, public library and much more.  We’re asking for your participation July through September and here’s how you can help:

1.  Add a $1 donation to your dining check at The Lady & Sons and the Deen Team will match it.

2. Donate school supplies for the after school program.

3.  1 dessert = 1 meal.  For every dessert purchased a meal will be donated for a child in the after school program.

Paula Deen’s Operation Backpack is a program we can all get behind.  It’s as easy as pie, literally, so make your reservations to dine at The Lady & Sons and you can make a difference, too.  Guests of Mermaid Cottages staying in Paula Deen’s Y’all Come Inn and at Back River Bungalow also receive VIP Dining Reservations with their stays.  You can make reservations to dine without waiting in that long line, too.  Give us a call and we’ll even help plan your visit!

Fishing on Tybee Island

Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion
Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion

Bring those fishing poles! Fishing on Tybee Island is a wonderful experience for anyone, especially families with a passion for it. The memories made while fishing on Tybee will have you coming back again and again. We have many spots great for fishing; South Beach Pier & Pavilion, Back River Pier, and Lazaretto Creek Fishing Pier are the most popular and easiest to locate.  They are all easily accessible and create the perfect atmosphere to hook that fish!

The South Beach Pier and Pavilion jets out from the beach, across the shore line and is great for the family who likes to play in the sand too.

Recycle SignThe Back River Fishing Pier is known as a great spot for the quiet fisherman. There is a little beach below, but it is more private than our main beach. The next street over, Alley 3 is a ramp where you can unload your own kayaks for a day on the water. We are a very recycle friendly community as well as largely protecting our wildlife so please dispose of your used fishing lines in the proper container marked with a sign.Back River Pier

Lazaretto Creek Fishing Pier has something special all to its own. Other than fishing, dolphin watching can be viewed sporadically throughout the day.  Just remember, there’s no guarantee, but it is free! You can also see the excitement of the seagulls as the shrimp boats come under the Lazaretto Creek Bridge to dock for the day. It’s just beautiful at sunset too! You may also fish along the shoreline beside the rock jetties at the North and South ends of the beach. Lazaretto Creek Seafood is a great place to get bait and Captain Roy, owner and longtime fisherman, is sure to tell you one of his amazing fishing stories. Just ask!
