Fall is when we get all excited about our history, weekends and all that jazz in Savannah and Tybee Island. This time of year we generally have our noses to the grindstone at work or in school, but we also know that means lots of fun on the weekends (and we sneak in as much fun as we can during the week, too). Next week is no exception, so start planning your one tank trip down to the low country. We’ve got lots of Fall fun that can’t be beat!
Join us for the 33rd Savannah Jazz Festival, September 21st — 27th! The Coastal Jazz Association has now grown to hundreds of members, including business and professional people, musicians, educators, students and just plain “listeners”. They share a common focus: to help Jazz thrive in the Coastal Empire by sponsoring live performances, by encouraging Jazz education through their scholarships, and through the camaraderie of others with these interests.

The next Fort Pulaski Free Admission Day is Saturday, September 27th, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (www.nps.gov/fopu/index.htm) Fort Pulaski National Monument welcomes more than 400,000 visitors a year. Park visitors represent a $21 million annual benefit to the local economy and support more than 300 jobs in the area,” says Superintendent Melissa Memory. “Fee-free days are a great way to both thank our local visitors and introduce Fort Pulaski National Monument to first-timers who can find a new place to explore and enjoy.”
Then, Sunday, September 28th, it’s time for Tybee Idol! Tybee Idol is the last Sunday of September and that means it’s also time for you to dig out the Cher wig!! Please sign up at Huc-A-Poos for a spot of superstardom. This is a wonderful way to celebrate your weekend with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit the Tybee Island Maritime Academy.
Of course, you’ll need a great cottage to make you feel like a star during your visit. Southern Cross Cottage circa 1935 is a classic Tybee Raised Cottage with a wrap around porch and a large fenced in yard with a fire pit and a spa tub. It’s just two blocks from the beach and ideal for a family or a Big Chill Friends weekend!
A Mermaid’s Tale circa 1950 has two wonderful master suites and a spacious, open living and dining area. Make it a couples getaway or a historic adventure weekend for two families.
Heron Hideaway has amazing marsh views and it’s just five short blocks from the beach. The third floor screened porch offers incredible views of the marsh. This is a great location for bird watching with plenty of space to spread out!
You’ll Fall in love with our history, weekends and all that Jazz in Savannah and Tybee Island. Give the Mermaids a call and start planning your next visit!
