The Tybee Wine Festival is one of the Tybee Post Theater’s major fundraising events. You’ll be toasting the best of Tybee via five fun and unique wine and food experiences.

Spring Fun With Tybee Island

It’s finally here and so are lots of Spring Fun with Tybee Island. What are y’all doing way over there? Just look at what you could be doing this weekend. We’ve still got a few cottages available, so take a plane, take a train or enjoy a one tank trip to our beautiful Georgia coast. Our cottage charm and coastal calm invites you to shuck those coats and clod hoppers. It’s swimsuits and flip flops time!

Thursday and Fridays in March 2015 PROGRAM DATES AND TIMES: March 20 and 26 at 4:15 p.m. Reservations recommended. Limited attendance. LENGTH OF PROGRAM: 60 to 75 minutes Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th century tea in the historic atmosphere of the Davenport House Museum. Patrons will tour areas of the historic home where tea service took place and will participate in an afternoon tea with costumed interpreters. The performance requires that guests be able to walk up and down stairs.

Come out and celebrate the end of the calving season for the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale as they leave our coastal waters and make their way north off the coast of New England near Stellwagen National Marine Sanctuary. Experience the trials and tribulations these whales encounter in our right whale obstacle course. Learn more about whales from experts and educators in the field. Enjoy live music and artwork from local artists. Partake in a guided beach walk on the shores of Tybee. Help keep Tybee beautiful by volunteering for a beach cleanup held from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Motoring past an historic Civil War fort and winding between lush walls of bright green marsh grass, this tour combines natural and human history of coastal salt marsh with the wild beauty of Ossabaw Island. You’ll meander through narrow tidal creeks watching for dolphin, birds, and others that feed off the lushness of our marshes. Stepping ashore you’ll have time for a relaxing stroll of this wild and seldom-visited beach, where you can beachcomb and enjoy the picnic lunch binoculars and bottled water; we provide a cooler and ice for your lunches and water.

Puppies On Our Shoes

We have so much fun with our pet guests and our pet fosters and now we can even have puppies on our shoes! We meet the most wonderful heroes working in pet rescue communities and we are very excited to share our new relationship with Pennsylvania artist Jennifer Morrison. We met Jennifer through our Facebook friends at Scottie Sales – All items with Scotties on to buy & sell . Jennifer creates custom shoes with your favorite pets in mind. She most often works with Westies and Scotties, but she’s so talented she can create your shoes with your favorite pets, too. The best part? Jennifer donates the proceeds from her shoe sales to pet rescues, pet fosters and pets with medical needs.

Those of us working to rescue and foster pets in need are very familiar with Jennifer’s calling. “My husband says if I bring one more blankety-blank dog home I’m gonna be single, so me painting shoes is just a small way I can pay it forward to doggies. I always donate a pair to online dog rescue auctions and such…I had a pair raise over $100 for a rescue, which is fantastic! I have one pair in an auction right now for a lady who owns I think four scotties and she is in the hospital and needs help caring for her Scotties. I am always happily painting shoes for doggies!”

In most cases, Jennifer’s creations run about $25 plus shipping. Sometimes, mens sizes may run a little more, as well as some creations that require more time and supplies. You can chose silhouettes like we did or you can send Jennifer photos of your precious pets and she’ll create your shoes with their portraits.

Our shoes arrived in very short time along with the wonderful news of how our proceeds benefitted a new mommy and her puppies.
“She just had four puppies. She got pulled from the shelter and literally started having puppies in the car! Isn’t she adorable? This is one of the rescuers that got her.”

I can’t imagine a day when Mermaid Cottages would ever turn down a pet who needs to be rescued or fostered and now we can help rescue even more pets in need. Flying Dogs In Savannah

Head on down to the Georgia coast this weekend and enjoy the flying dogs in Savannah! It’s time for the Hyperflyte Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship Qualifier this coming weekend, March 7 and 8. Attendance is free of charge. The event benefits Pets for Vets, an organization that is dedicated to supporting veterans and providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training, and pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from a companion animal. “Medical studies have proven that animals have significant effect on improving mental and physical health, which includes depression and anxiety, symptoms experienced by many serving in the military,” says Chief Master Sergeant James Fox, who is the mastermind of starting this event here in the Greater Savannah area. Participating local pet rescue agencies as well as Islands High School’s Veterinary Science program will also benefit from the event. Families and friends are invited to enjoy this unique event and applaud these talented canine athletes!
