Black Mermaids, Studio del Vetro, Deb DiMarco-Artist

Studio del Vetro and artist Deb DiMarco was featured in our May Mermaid Sightings.  We were just so in love with Deb’s work we had to share it with you.  Well, Deb heard about our admiration and wrote us this lovely note.

“I wanted to write to thank you for featuring my mermaids on your website. If it hadn’t been for Cookie Washington, curator of the “Mermaids and Merwomen in Black Folklore” exhibition at City Gallery at Waterfront Park in Historic Charleston, SC on view August 28 through October 28, 2012 I would never have been aware that you had found my work. Cookie tracked me down from your blog posting to …

Mermaid Sighting: Lovely Mermaids Reflected in St. Augustine

Everyone here at Mermaid Cottages loves sharing mermaid sightings! We love seeing new pictures from all over come in, and how unique and beautiful they are. This week’s sighting comes from Mary A.; though Mary is from Savannah, she was out for the day with friends in St. Augustine, Florida when she spotted this gorgeous mermaid!

St. Augustine is full of beautiful shops and loads of history. Mary tells us this lovely mirrored maiden was hiding in a window nook right inside the garden door of a sweet little vintage shop. She certainly reflects that, doesn’t she? She’s just beautiful Mary, thank you for sharing!

Have you seen a mermaid? Well, we’d love to hear about it! Please send us your mermaid sightings and stories! You can send your sightings to diane@mermaidcottages.com, then keep your eyes peeled, because your sighting could be the next featured right here on our blog!

Mermaid Sighting: Ahoy, an International Mermaid!

Mermaid Cottages sure loves seeing mermaid sightings from our fans. It’s always exciting to see where you find mermaids hiding, and this week is a special international treat! Lisa’s email and sighting comes to us all the way from Canada!

“Greetings from Canada! We’re a long ways from home, but found a little mermaid friend! So I have mermaids on the brain because our next trip (and my LAST before this sweet baby boy comes in July) will be to run away to Tybee for a week in June. We can’t wait to stay at Mermaid Manor, and that mermaid has been on my mind for a LONG time! Presently, I’m with my husband in Victoria, BC for his business before we head down to a vineyard wedding in Sonoma, CA. I’ve been exploring beautiful Victoria on my own and took a little harbor tour yesterday. It was highly recommended I stop at Fisherman’s Wharf for the best Fish & Chips on the island, and there she was! Peeking above the float houses….this sweet little mermaid on the bow of a ship. Turns out she has the very important job of welcoming children to the playground, but she seemed to be keeping a watchful eye on the harbor as well. Can’t wait to get back to Tybee soon! Blessings, Lisa Ward “

She’s beautiful, Lisa! She definitely seems to be keeping a watchful eye over things, doesn’t she? Thank you so much for sharing; we can’t wait to see you soon!

Mermaid Sighting: Roadside Mermaids!

Everyone at Mermaid Cottages loves seeing mermaid sightings come in. It never ceases to amaze us where mermaids might be hiding. Well, this week’s sighting is a doozie! Usually, our sightings are of solitary mermaids, but this week we had a gaggle of mermaids courtesy of Melissa and Rob from DeLand, Florida. Here’s what Melissa had to say about their sighting:

“Ever since our honeymoon with Mermaid Cottages back in 2008, we are always on the lookout for mermaids. Well, we recently moved to Florida so I thought there’d be a plethora of them, but they seemed few and far between…until we went to Barberville! There seemed to be a mermaid around every corner at Barberville Roadside Yard Art & Produce. I didn’t even get a picture of them all before my camera battery died! We even got a merman! I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!”

WOW! That’s a lot of mermaids in one spot. The street lamp is especially neat! Thanks for sharing Melissa and Rob; you certainly hit the mermaid jackpot!

Have you spotted a mermaid? We’d love to hear about it! Please send your sightings and stories to diane@mermaidcottages.com and keep any eye out. Your sighting could be the next feature on our blog!

“I’ve stayed at the Mermaid cottage before in the past, and LOVED it.  Sadly, I can’t make it to Tybee Island this year, so I’m doing my best to bring the mermaids to me!  Here is my latest creation, my “Chocolate” mermaid.  The one pictured is Pearl, but we plan to add a Diane!” ~Marina and Aqua

Pearl is definitely too pretty to eat!
