Our Grand Finale for Artist Week- Annoucing Gypsy!

How do you not love a traveling Artist named Gypsy! Especially when she paints mermaids and fish and palm trees. One of our regular Mermaid Cottages guests, Missy, told me all about her, and next thing you knew, Gypsy was here on Tybee and we have her art in Sea Side Sisters! Enjoy these pictures, be sure you go to her website http://www.gypsyfolk.com/ and of course plan to attend her art show later this fall ( dates to be advised) at SeaSide Sisters. Thank you Gypsy for sharing your art and happy spirit!

PS- for those of you staying at Dutton Waller Cottage, be sure to check out the new tree swing and the fish art she created on the seat. The swing was already great fun for kids and adults alike, but now it’s even better!

My Mom, Cullen Jones, and his Olympic Gold Medal Win

What does Olympic Gold Medal Athelete and my Mom have in common? No, it’s not beacuse they are both winners. It’s that commerical that is running non stop during the Olympics where Cullen is thanking his mom for all her support!
He is such a genuine and authentic young man, you just want to burst with pride because he is one of the many exceptional people representing our country! I just heard his interview on NPR and they played the commerical on the air. Still makes you tear up without seeing the pictures!
My mom has always been there to support me and I’d love to do a commerical telling her how much she means to me! She just started to learn how to use a computer at the age of 81 and even better- has figured out how to read my blog daily- so I know she’s reading this! So as Cullen told his mom- Thanks Mom!!!
Play this great commerical especially if you haven’t seen it before. Even if you have seen it, play it again- just to remember your own Mom and what she’s done to support you .

Nest #2 has hatched!

Nest 2 hatched at 12:30AM on Sunday morning with 40 hatchlings making it to the ocean!

Here’s another great youtube video of a loggerhead nest hatching from last summer on a beach in North Carolina. It starts out a little slow, like all nest hatchings, but stick with it- you’ll love watching the “turtle boil” when all the babies start popping out and then head towards the sea. How do you not love these amazing little creatures!

Artist Week continues – Sara Tetley!

Sara was a guest who stayed with us last year and while here painted some of the charming cottages that dot our island! Her art is for sale directly from Sara ( but we’re hoping to have her featured at one of our local galleries sometime soon! ) In the meantime, you can contact her directly for prices on any of these pictures or to commission your own cottage.

314 800 3441 or email sara.tetley@pgav.com

PS check back with us – Sara also have a vacation rental in historic downtown Beaufort , SC . I’m planning a road trip there later this summer and will be sharing details in a future blog. Beaufort is the perfect side trip to add to your Tybee vacation experience. Check back… In the meantime, here is Sara in her own words.

“I love to paint on Tybee – it’s almost impossible to be on the island without encountering something inspiring. The beautiful light, sweet scale and eclectic charm is magical. That’s my idea of a fulfilling getaway-to begin to notice everything around with delight.

My watercolors focus on the cottages, with occasional diversions into still lives or landscapes. I guess I’m drawn to homes because I’m an architect. I was taught to paint awhile back at college by a hip Scotsman named Muir Stewart (these days you can find his work above every featured house plan in Coastal Living magazine)

I am a southern gal. I was raised in Virginia, Georgia and NW Florida and went to college in Alabama , I have no idea what I am doing in St Louis except dreaming about the south and the water…….. hope you enjoy my art! “
