What the shell? Let’s go beachy with our décor! Of course, we love working with our cottage owners to create that special cottage charm and you can do it, too. Who says your home has to be right at the waters edge for you to let all shell break loose? You might be land locked, but you go right ahead and create your own island paradise in your own home, too. Here are a few inspirations that’ll have you going coastal in no time.

It’s Summer and that means it’s time for Tybee’s happy movies by the sea! Every third Saturday evening during the summer months, Tybeetians and beach goers plop down for a picnic and a movie at Memorial Park. These family friendly movies will be projected on the side of the Tybee Gym compliments of the City of Tybee Island’s Development Authority and Tybee’s Main Street Program and Partners. On Saturday, August 15, we’ll be watching Earth To Echo!

Tuck, Munch and Alex are a trio of inseparable friends whose lives are about to change. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. But just two days before they must part ways, the boys begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they team up with another school friend, Emma, and set out to look for the source of their phone signals. What they discover is something beyond their wildest imaginations: a small alien who has become stranded on Earth. In need of their help, the four friends come together to protect the alien and help him find his way home. This journey, full of wonder and adventure, is their story, and their secret.

Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races

This Summer has been so much fun we just don’t want to let it end. The Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races are coming up on September 12. 2015. Thankfully, the weather stays very mild down here and that means more fun for everyone! The races will shove off from A-J’s Dockside, 1315 Chatham Ave and proceeds will benefit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. There will be three races with staggered start times:

Tybee River Race: 6 1Ž2 miles on the tidal river separating Tybee and Little Tybee Islands.
Little Tybee Challenge: 8 miles, circumnavigates part of Little Tybee Island.
Race Across the River for Gold Sponsors: Our Gold sponsors compete for a grand prize.

Chef Boy Are We

Chef, boy are we excited to see Chef Steven Satterfield in Savannah and Tybee Island this weekend! Steven co-owns our Castaway Cottage circa 1955 with his partner, Ben, and we’re always thrilled to see them on the island. Steven will be signing copies of his latest book From Root To Leaf, so you have two great opportunities to meet him, pick up his book and have him sign it. He’ll be hanging around to meet and chat, so why not go to both!

Saturday June 20th at The Florence in Savannah from 1-3 p.m. Entrance is free and complimentary light bites will be served. There will be a cash bar, as well.

Sunday June 21st at Tybee Island Fish Camp from 5-7 p.m. Free entrance here, too, and there will be light bites and cash bar. Please make reservations for dinner at Fish Camp after the signing.
