We Support Cosmo and the Walk For the Animals!

Ten years ago, Cosmo was a stray in Omaha, NE. Hungry, lonely, and wandering the streets. Cosmo was saved by the Nebraska Humane Society, and our friend Paul adopted him. Today, Cosmo has fans the world over and is known as one of the most stylish dogs around!
Mermaid Cottages is an annual sponsor of the Margre Durham Walk for the Animals, which helps the NE Humane Society raise funds to reach out and help homeless animals! Cosmo and Paul participate every year, and this year is extra special because they are celebrating Cosmo’s ten year anniversary of having a home! This is a wonderful cause, and we join Cosmo and Paul is asking for your support too!
Cosmo and Paul hope to raise at least $700 before the walk date September 26, 2010…and you can help! Please visit their donation page and help them reach and even exceed their goal! For more information, check out the event page at the Nebraska Humane Society website today! And, congratulations on ten years Cosmo!!!

First Friday Art Night: Release of the Mermaid!

This Friday is First Friday Art Night on Tybee, and we have some exciting things happening! We’d love for everyone to come out to the Douglas Jones Fish Art Gallery and celebrate with us!

The whimsical welcomes you right as you enter from your parking spot! Photo thanks to Deanna Anthony

Local artist Douglas Jones has a gallery full of wacky and whimsical folk art creations. His work is a combination of thrift shop finds, found objects, and yard sale discoveries! Truly, the Douglas Jones Fish Art Gallery has been a must-see Tybee experience since it’s opened eight years ago. A mix of art and fun beach items inside, and an open air gallery outside, it is truly a sight to behold!

The colorful gallery is at 1207 hwy 80 East on Tybee Island! Photo thanks to Deanna Anthony

This Friday, September 3, the gallery will be unveiling Jones’ latest piece at the First Friday Art Night! The 15 foot sculpture is nameless at the moment, but is simply being called The Mermaid. The Release of the Mermaid ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the gallery and there will be food, drinks, and loads of fun! Also, there will be a contest to name the piece, so make sure you start brainstorming now!
