Yellow Labs and Mermaids- two of my favorite things!

I love being here in Key West. Even thought Max is not feeling well, Danny is his usual crazy self. He’s my walking buddy and we’re walking all over our neighborhood here in Old Town. Every where I look is another amazing cottage restoration.  Heaven for someone like me who loves old houses.

But there is another element to Key West which I love.  Craziness.  Pure and right there in your face people who just don’t care how things look to the rest of the world. I’ve heard this place called the “Island of misfit toys” over and over.

Today’s walk took the cup cake.  I was walking and saw a mermaid sticking out from a roof top.  Cool! A mermaid sighting!  Then I looked again.  Not one but TWO YELLOW LABS sitting on the roof! A mermaid and yellow labs – life doesn’t get any better!

But here’s the crazier thing. The are literally right on the edge of the house. And they are walking around- looking at people ( who like me are taking pictures of this sight!)  Then they get bored of the people and just lay back down and take another nap. True labs!  Isn’t this incredible???

Mermaid Tales: Nora’s Cottage c 1920

703 2nd Avenue

Welcome to Nora’s Cottage, a circa 1920 Tybee treasure! Nora’s mid-island location makes it the perfect place to be close to everything Tybee has to offer. You’ll enjoy a 3 block stroll to the beach, and the out door shower when you return and need to refresh after all that beach combing. The home has a screen porch in front, perfect for relaxing with a good book, or just watching island life pass by.

Nora’s Cottage is great for a family retreat, friend escape, or anyone just wanting to slow down and relax. The cottage sleeps six comfortably, but for those groups needing more room, the home is across the street from three of our other cottages: A Mermaid’s Tale, Basking Under the Tybee Sun, and Good Times. The quiet residential neighborhood is perfect for bicycle rides all over the island, so pack your wheels! Don’t want to bother with packing your bulky bike? Visit Tim’s Beach Gear for bicycles and anything else you might need during your stay on the island!
Don’t leave your furry friends behind at home either…Nora’s is pet friendly! Make sure you bring your best friends along. They are sure to enjoy the fenced in yard and the large deck for sun puddle naps!

This beautiful cottage has been selected to be on the National Register of Historic Places, but it holds an extra special place in the hearts of John and Ed, grandsons of the cottage’s namesake Grandma Nora. She lived here for many years. John and Ed spent many a summer in the cottage and have taken great pride in restoring the home. We can’t wait to share that love and care with you! Make your plans to visit Tybee and stay at Nora’s Cottage, you’ll be glad you did. This historic Tybee cottage is just waiting for you…see you soon!

The dogs of Key West, Florida

I’m spending a magical month in Key West- an island I truly love.  I adore Tybee Island, Georgia, but there is something about being at this end of the road ( literally!) island that just speaks to my soul.  I think it’s the combination of amazing cottages, unique and  interesting people from all over the world who have landed here, world class restaurants ( some fancy, some shacks) and the weather. Even though we’re going thru a cold spell, it just doesn’t matter.

The dogs and I literally take walks all day long.  I love finding interesting things to take pictures of with my cell phone camera.   I keep finding dog “stuff” including dog statues.  Here are two that took my breath away.  Just down the street from my cottage, I think they are too big labs.  The owner thinks they are great danes, but I think they are labs.  Big, glorious labs guarding their humans and home.  And best of all, all decorated for the holidays!  This whole home is beautiful and all lit up, but the dogs are the best part.

Enjoy! I know I do on a daily basis!
