For all you adventure seekers whose idea of the perfect weekend includes Glamping in Tybee Island you’ll be happy to know this coming weekend will be spectacular. Skidaway Island State Park has some of our favorite programs scheduled this Saturday and Sunday. We’d love for you to come join us for some birding, hiking and the call of the wild.
This Saturday, June 28, head out for the 10 a.m. Morning Bird Watch. You’ll learn the basics about local bird varieties and see some great specimens at the feeding stations. At 2 p.m. get ready to spot Painted Buntings. These beautiful, multi-colored birds are some of America’s favorites and you’ll also find them in the park. Then, at 8:30 p.m. get ready for the Call of the Wild. You can walk the trails to enjoy the night sounds of the nocturnal animals.
On Sunday, June 29, it’s Bird Hike and Dinner Time. At 9 a.m. you’ll join up for an informative morning bird hike. Remember to bring your binoculars (there’s a limited supply to borrow from the museum). At 3 p.m. you can watch as the rangers feed the reptiles, featuring the leaping lizards, chopping turtles and snakes.
But don’t think that’s all there is to glamping around here. We just happen to have one of our favorite cottages available and it’s a nature lovers delight. It’s Heron Hideaway.
The front screened porch has seating and dining tables and partial marsh views for excellent bird watching. The newly added third floor screened porch offers incredible views of the marsh.
The master bedroom has a private master full bathroom and views of the marsh and sunsets.
The main floor has a “great room” with a dining area, a full kitchen and a living area. Full of windows with lots of natural light. this cottage has 2000 square feet, yet it’s still cozy and comfy. The 10th Street beach is an easy five block walk away.
This is an ideal home for a family, girls getaway weekends or even a honeymoon retreat. The owner is an artist and the home is full of her original art and other local and regional artists. Oh yes, did we mention we have manatees in the tidal creek in the summer time and that two of Tybee’s best Fishing and Ecotourism Captains live right next door? There’s also complimentary off-street parking for three cars, an RV or even a small boat and trailer.
You’ll love glamping in Tybee Island. Roughing it never felt so luxurious.
