Our beloved Tybee Island sea turtles sent August out with a bang! Nest Seven hatched last Monday, August 29th, and about 80 babies made it safely to the waiting waves. The hard working people over at The Tybee Sea Turtle Project excavated Wednesday. The official Nest Seven news was78 hatched eggs and 14 unhatched. There were no stragglers or casualties, and that is always good news! Hurricane Irene didn’t bother any of our nests either, so thank goodness for that!

Tybee Island has two remaining nests this season and they are being watched very closely for signs of hatching. Excavations are open to the public and are a great way to learn more about our island’s sea turtles. If you’re in the area, please join in. Stay tuned to our blog and The Tybee Sea Turtle Project Facebook page to keep up-to-date on all the latest Tybee Island sea turtle news! Now, have a Happy Labor Day y’all!
