Katsuya truly is the sushi bar to the stars!!

Yes, I knew it! Katsuya truly is the place to have sushi!!! Even though my personal evening of fabulous sushi was celebrity free , our favorite teenager and her boyfriend- Liam ( who yes- she met while filming The Last Song on Tybee! )- Miley was there last night!!!

But our gal, being the very confident person that she is- did not dress up like all those others I saw the night I was there. Jeans and a black jacket were plenty for her.

The Disney Media Machine is really starting to heat up as well about the movie. Miley was on the cover of Seventeen Magazine in December ( the month she turned 17) and she talked about how in about 10 years she can see herself leaving the biz and moving to Tybee Island. Love it!

Thomas Crown and James Bond on the Malibu Bluffs

While driving from Santa Monica lunch and the farmers market back to Northridge, we stopped in Malibu at the local little league baseball field. Imagine playing little league directly above the Pacific Ocean. What amazing views, but I guess the kids are used to it! We got out to take some pictures and admire the view and then hopped back in the car to head back up the coast.

We saw a man with his dog and son and since this I am a Tybee person and since this is what we do on Tybee- I waved and smiled. Hey- that’s what we do- especially when they have a dog! The man, hesitated for a second then smiled and waved. OMGosh…. I realized it was James Bond himself- Pierce Bronsan! And then when he pulled up behind us in his Range Rover- yep- that was him! He and his family live in Malibu and are quite the Ocean Activitists. Visit his website to see some of the many good works he does in addition to just admiring his still very hanesome James Bond/ Thomas Crown good Irish looks! www.piercebrosnan.com

Sushi- LA Style!

Crazy high heels that everyone seems to wear out here!

Me smiling because I’m loving this sushi place!

Reginald the manager of Katsuya happily posing with me for a pic. Everyone is a star in LA.

Yummy, yummy, yummy sushi! Cindy took me to sushi to the stars Katsuya in Brentwood http://www.sbe.com/ I am a huge fan of sushi, but I’ve never had sushi like this. Almond crusted scallops, quick fried sticky rice with spicy tuna, rice paper wrapped snow crab with some sort of sauce that I can’t even discribe- amazing!
The show of people was equally as entertaining, all ages of people, each dressed up more LA chic then the next including all these pregnant women. Yes, all dressed in black with skinny jeans and those crazy high heels! Such fun to watch.
Reginald, the restaurant manager came over to say hello ( and pose for pictures- everyone in LA loves to pose for a picture , no problem being a tourist here! I could have taken as many pictures as I wanted to and any one I asked and they were happy to smile for the camera!) Reginald was also kind enough to send over a sample of sushi for us to try- Good will as he called it.
A great place to go any time, but here’s the trade secret wispered to us by one of the hostesses- Monday is the night to come by and eat and shssss- see the stars! She said some Monday’s every where you look in the restaruant is some one you know from movies, tv or the music world.
Enjoy!

The January Road Trip has begun

The trip has started. I’m officially on the Road. My adventures began yesterday with a ride to the ATL Hartsfield Airport ( the world’s busiest airport www.atlanta-airport.com ) with Susan and Jimmy of Seaside Sisters and SeaSide Sweets. 3.5 hours of talking about new exciting ideas and plans for the 2010 season ( BBBQ coming this spring to Sea Side Sweets, “Junking Weekend” coming to SeaSide Sisters this spring with hopefully not only Mary Kay Andrews www.marykayandrews.com but also her partner in junking crime, the famous Eddie Ross www.eddieross.com just to name two of the ideas and wonderful Tybee experiences waiting for everyone this spring…..)

I have not been on a plane since Fall 2008. I literally had to go on line to www.delta.com to figure out about bags, check in time etc. Did you know you now have to pay to check a bag? Even your first bag? Me, the road traveler for years truly felt like a novice. I don’t know how many of you have seen the George Clooney movie, Up in the Air www.theupintheairmovie.com but those people were me. You had it down pat as to how to travel. To go from that to how in experienced I felt yesterday was amazing. However….. it was a GREAT experience. The airport really has this down pat. Down to having little zip lop bags available to place your 3 oz liquid bottles in to go thru the TSA security check. The TSA agents were extremely on top of everything, very professional and courteous and took their jobs seriously.

My plane was full, but as part of my travel superstitions, I asked to meet both pilots in person in the cockpit and both were delighted to speak with me. The captain was an older woman- been flying for 30 years and the 1st Officer was in his late 30’s. Not quite Sully, but still evoked great confidence. I did find one thing very interesting, the female captain did not speak to the travelers with any annoucements… I’m not sure why, but she welcomed and said good bye, but did not speak during the flight. Fine with me, she was focused on flying that plane!

And….. EACH SEAT HAD it’s OWN TV!!! Yes, TV! Live! Bravo with the Real Housewives of Orange County, CNN with the President’s address to the nation live. EVEN BRIAN WILLIAMS and the NBC Nightly NEWS!!!! You could even use your American Express card and buy almost first run movies, all right at your seat!! OMGosh! The time flew buy, easy landing, bag showed up and life was good.

I headed over to one of my favorite friend’s Cindy’s new home in LA and settled into a relaxing quiet evening. I’ll share that later. It’s going to be a great trip!

Happy New Year- 6 days late

Happy, Happy New Year.

Yes, I realize today’s date is the 6th of January, but sometimes living life gets in the way of blogging about the escapades and adventures that happen in daily life. After a truly special Christmas and New Year’s in Delaware ( complete with seeing 5 movies!!!! ) Katie & I drove back from Bethany Beach on January 1st- all the way home to her mountain school in Brevard , NC. Cold, freezing, icy, snowy- and her home has little to no heat. So Katie, Danny and I all huddled in bed together. Max was the only smart one choosing to sleep on the very comfy over stuffed chair.

The next morning , her special friend Case came down from his mountain top home and Katie made breakfast. Blueberry pancakes with true maple syrup, farm fresh eggs and local goat cheese. Delicious!!!!!! I drove home and could NOT believe how crowded I95 was both ways. All those folks heading south to Florida and all those people heading home from Florida made for a traffic jam on the interstate. I made it home and yet again realized how much I love and adore my coastal barrier island. Driving from Savannah out the old Tybee road ( formerly a railroad) and looking over the vast expanse of marsh and water, I can’t help but think of how lucky I am to live in such a physically beautiful place. The weather is cold but that really is ok because it just doesn’t last long. Never does. As cold as it is now, it will be warmer again very soon. I’m back home, opened lots of wonderful cards, holiday newsletters and pictures. Here were snippets from two of my favorites.

From my friends Kitty & Larry in Palm Desert, CA

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.”

This is from Leonard Miller aka The Sandman. The man who creates all those magical sandcastles on the beaches each summer as well as paints many of our cottage signs. This was a hand made Christmas card I found on my door stop when I came home.

“To you Diane Kaufman

Keep on showing the new comers your skill in what a house a home can be.

Show them a spontaneously unexpected intrusion of nature just by looking out a window or a door.

Show them a special charm, only a Tybee home can provide.

Show them that it’s Family Friendly, And most of all , it’s a Keep sake.

Leonard Miller, the Sandman”

I will keep this card forever.
