IRISH HERITAGE:Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers

We’re celebrating Irish Heritage with five of the top Irish Pet Breeds!  How about these Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers!  This loving, active Irish breed has very little shedding so they make outstanding pets for anyone with allergies and their easy going demeanor makes them a great choice as therapy dogs.  There are four coat varieties: Traditional Irish, Heavy Irish, English and American. They’re hypoallergenic, low maintenance, love people, smart and easy to train.  Just brush them once a day and their hair is more like human hair; it just keeps growing and is easy to maintain.  They’re great watch dogs, meaning they’re great with children, but non-aggressive, so not so well suited as a guard dog.
Take a look at this sweet You Tube video by zwubby222 and all the shades of love that Soft Coated Wheatons come in!
Join us for the Tybee Irish Heritage Celebration Parade this weekend and follow our BLOG and on FACEBOOK.  Post your photos of your pets enjoying Tybee Island and Mermaid Cottages and your pet could be our Beach Bum Biscuits Eater of the Day!

Mermaid Sighting: Beary Clever Art from Sue Tobey White

This week, we really have a special treat. A beautiful piece by our friend Sue Tobey White, a fabulous artist from Belfast, Maine, is our featured mermaid sighting!
A few years ago, Belfast had fiberglass bears, much like other cities…Chicago had cows, Tybee has turtles and so on. Well, Sue was one of the artists participating! Sue was kind enough to email a little information to us.

“We could choose between a standing-on-all-fours or a standing bear, on two legs, and create what we wanted. I chose the one on two legs. We cut off the legs, made a tail, and created Bearielle, the mer-bear.She is now on Nantucket Island at the home of someone who collects mermaids!”

Isn’t Bearielle fabulous? Of course, I adore this quirky, unique mermaid! Thank you so much for sharing her with us Sue. You can read more about Bearielle and the other Belfast Bears at the Belfast Bearfest website; they are all so much fun!
Have you seen a mermaid? Feel like sharing? We’d love to see your sighting! Please send your sighting and story to diane@mermaidcottages.com and allow us to share it with our readers. And, make sure to catch our up-coming Mermaids in Our Midst post this week to learn more about Sue Tobey White and her fabulous art!
