Beach Music and a new favorite website to visit!

Wow. You just never know what interesting person you’re going to talk to next! Late this summer, I took a reservation for one of our homes and I happened to notice her website on her email http://www.themusicfile.com/ When I asked Kayne about her business, it was just fascinating! She showcases all sorts of music, both music you know and music you have no clue about. She even offers a song of the day to make life easy for everyone.

Here’s the link and the music she posted on her site in honor of her Tybee long weekend stay with us. Enjoy and visit her site often.

As she quotes on her site : “Without music life would be a mistake.”-Nietzsche

Mama Blues Shrimp Patties

During Daughter Katie ‘s visit, she practised one of her hobbies- cooking! The summer time is her traveling time and while she visits friends and family, her car is a traveling apartment as she moves from place to place with her cooking equipment, spices, whatever she needs to create cooking masterpieces. While she was here, we had Penny and Douglas for dinner and she made a great dish from a super website for finding receipes- really a social network that anyone can join and share , discover and even organize receipes! http://www.bigoven.com/

She made shrimp cakes with wild Georgia shrimp fresh off the boat docks. We all raved about how incredible these were! Enjoy the pictures and the receipe!

Mama Blues Shrimp Patties Ingredients
3 c Water
1/4 ts Salt
1 lb Unpeeled medium-size fresh
1/4 ts Pepper

1/4 ts Hot sauce
1/2 c Milk
1 lg Egg, lightly beaten
2 Green onions, chopped

Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Stir in green onions and next 6 ingredients. Combine shrimp, egg, 1/2-cup breadcrumbs, and sauce mixture. Shape into 4 patties; dredge in remaining crumbs. Pour oil to depth of 1/2 inch into a skillet. Fry in hot oil until golden, turning once. We made a yogurt/ cucumber sauce to go with these, but you could use any type tarter sauce.

Newly Fluffed Little Fish Cottage- A great value vacation rental!

The owners of Little Fish Cottage have been working on one of our favorite hobbies- fluffing cottages! Enjoy the pictures of the new fresh look of Little Fish Cottage! This cottage is a great value, 3 bedrooms sleeping 6 people, 2 full bathrooms ( which we know is a huge plus with our small cottages!), 1.5 blocks from the beach and a very easy walk to all of “downtown” Tybee– the fishing pier, Marine Science Center, even Doc’s Bar for our adult visitors. Little Fish is Pet Friendly for smaller dogs.
We still have several fall weekends available and our regulars and locals know- the fall and early winter is the BEST time to be here and enjoy the island! Today is the perfect example, sunshine, blue skies, no bugs and yes……… NO HUMIDITY!!! You can see more details on this cottage on their website www.littlefishcottage.net and of course can make your reserve directly on line on www.mermaidcottages.com Enjoy!

Richard Leo Johnson’s newest exhibit

Hopefully many of you will remember from earlier Blogs one of our favorite visitors- Richard and Jane Johnson. These are pictures he took and we shared earlier of his visit to Fiddler on the Creek Cottage this summer. Good news for fans of his work- Richard’s photographs and music will be featured at a gallery opening on Saturday Sept 27th! Here are the details of this fun event which is free and open to all Mermaid Cottage family and friends!

“Please join us for an engaging evening , Saturday Sept 27th, 6-9pm
as we open a new exhibition of worksfeaturing Northern Yucatan Photographs by
Richard Leo Johnson with an “original musical score” written by the artist especially for the exhibition. “Living Maya” “Living Maya” is an inspired view of the northern Yucatan coast and it’s people by Richard Leo Johnson. Johnson and his wilfe purchased a small piece of property near the tiny fishing village of San Crisanto. The photographs on exhibition, taken in July of this year, “portray the simple and purposeful life of an ancient people in modern times.”

This exhibition will also feature an “original musical score” created by Richard Leo Johnson. Richard ‘s acoustic guitar music has been featured on NPR’s Fresh Air by Milo Miles (March 29, 2006), and he has been called one of the most innovative and inspired acoustic guitarists on the current American music scene. ”

Dancing with the Stars and Cloris

Yes, there is yet another reality show that has captured my ADD attention. Maybe it’s the bright shiny dance costumes! I’m officially hooked so I should be in good shape until January when American Idol rolls back into our lives . I’m hooked because we Americans always love people who try and work hard and don’t really mind if the world is watching. Cloris Leachman aka Phylis from the Mary Tyler Moore Show is now 82 years old and after 3 years of trying, finally was accepted to be part of the show. She can’t move like most of the others, but she is an entertainer of world class size! She received a standing ovation after her first dance this week. And she’s having so much fun! What a woman!
My second favorite person to watch is the former Professional Football Player, Warren Sapp. He must way 350lbs, but watch his feet move! Watch him sweat! Watch is huge smile as he sucessfully manuevers those very complicated dance moves!

In this time of true stress in our country, tune in on Monday Nights for a little bit of sheer joy!
