SERVICE DOGS:Here To Serve!

Anyone that shares his/her life with a pet knows they can be amazing and just as with our children sometimes we gush about how smart and talented ours are!

The term “Service Dog” covers a lot of territory and whether you call them a Guide Dog or  Service Dog or Assistance Dog they all make it possible for many persons with disabilities to lead astonishingly normal lives.

Here are a few of the specialties Service Dogs are trained in:

Guide Dog
Guide Dogs are the eyes for a blind or sight impaired person.

Hearing Dog
A Hearing Dog alerts its handler to sounds.

Seizure Alert/Response Dog
A Seizure Alert Dog alerts and responds to its handler when it senses the handler may be having a seizure.

Mobility Assist Dog
A Mobility Assist Dog is the arms and legs for a disabled person.

Psychiatric Service Dog
A Psychiatric Service Dog enables a person with a psychiatric disorder to calm down and can enable the person to function in public.

There are certainly some days my dogs are my miracle workers and they always know when I could use a kiss and a hug!

If you have a service animal or know of a service animal that’s making a difference in someone’s life please let us know.  We’d love to meet them!

Mermaid Sighting: Mermaid Cat!

Mostly, you see mermaids pictured as beautiful maidens with lithe, curvy figures and flowing hair. But, every once in a while, you see something else. I just adore this Mermaid Cat…or Mercat, whatever floats your boat. It’s whimsical, cute, and totally unexpected, and I love that!

This unique mermaid is by Sandi of Sandi’s Shellscapes on Etsy. The artist is even located near Daytona Beach, FL like our sighting from last week! She has a wonderful shop full of lovelies, so make sure you pay her a visit and get your sea shell fix.
Don’t forget, mermaids are everywhere! If you spot one, we’d love to see it. You can send your sighting and a little info about your mermaid to diane@mermaidcottages.com. Your mermaid might be the next one featured right here! We can’t wait to hear from you!

COTTAGE CHEESE:Super Bowl, A Moving Experience

I say this with love.

I feel we’re very close.

The Super Bowl can be a moving experience.

Fun.  Food.  Family.  Friends.

Did I say FOOD?  At my home that means hot, spicy, gorgeous, involved, provocative, rich, emotional food.

I like to quote Paula Deen, “I’m your cook…not your cardiologist”!  If you ain’t ‘sposed to eat it don’t stuff it in your mouth.  You stick to the celery sticks filled with cream cheese or peanut butter and the rest of us will suffer through chili, hot wings, ribs, steamed oysters, jalapenos wrapped in bacon, clams and sausage, melon and tomatoes and feta salad.

Thus brings me to the top of the “Real Important Details” list for a Super Bowl party…W.O.S.

WIDE OPEN SPACES!

You gather a bunch of folks with little or no will power, provide them with unlimited gastronomic experiences and confine them to a limited space and it’ll be a lot like chasing a bobcat up a tree.  In just a rooster hair someone will be hollering, “Shoot up here amongst us!  One of us needs some relief”!

WIDE OPEN SPACES!  That’s the key to a successful Super Bowl party.  Mermaid Cottages on Tybee Island has got you covered.  Just open up any of the cottages, let the crowds spill out into the outdoor rooms and onto the vast yards and the life you save just may be your own or more importantly MINE!

The Super Bowl.  It’s a truly moving experience!

It’s about the laws of physics!  It’s about understanding lots of spicy foods breeds a little too much familiarity!  It’s the Super Bowl!  It’s COTTAGE CHEESE!
